Sermon

In this season of life that we’re all in right now, I have a certain agenda. It’s to get to know all of you as fast and as much as I can before school starts. By now, I know most of your names and am familiar with most faces. Given there’s a lot of you.
Well, in the Bible, Jesus, speaks directly to people in the season of life that we are in. It’s incredible. Join me. .

So in the Gospel of John it’s safe to say that Jesus is constantly trying to make this point. He is the Son of God. After all says...
John 20:30–31 ESV
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
I’m not saying it has.
And here… in this passage we’re going to see the same thing.
I’m just suggesting that it may seem that way to you. Even though Erin and I are finally here, it may seem familiar and regular. Well what seems regular and possibly insignificant to you is vitally important and valuable to some of us.
I said earlier, that we all are in this season of life, but I have an agenda and it’s to get to know each of you as much as I can and as fast as I can before school starts. I honestly believe Jesus to have....somewhat…been in the same kind of scenario in His ministry. I’m pushing to know and meet you in a few months, Jesus pushed to know and establish disciples before His resurrection.
Here’s my illustration.
My deadline is school starting
Jesus’ deadline was the Cross and His resurrection

Isaiah 55 ESV
1 “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. 3 Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. 4 Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. 5 Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you. 6 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; 7 let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. 12 “For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. 13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall make a name for the Lord, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”
Here…In this passage. Is A LOT. Specifically what I’d like to point out, is the emphasis in verses 10-11.
There’s a dilemma in this passage that may go unseen and it’s the idea of knowing God’s Word and that it never fails, but not understanding.
God is saying…My Word WILL SUCCEED regardless of your doubt and regardless if you do not come to me or consider your ways or repent. Thus sayeth the Lord, My Word WILL accomplish. And just like you don’t necessarily understand my ways, my understanding, or even how water falls from the sky into the ground and produces, guess what, it’ll still accomplish the purpose.
There’s a s
Well back in …Jesus is dealing with the same issue of not being known or trusted or believed.
The Issue? (Plain disbelief) (Not among the sheepfold) If you are the Christ, tell us plainly…vs. 25-26
Verse 25 - “I told you...” Specifically Jesus said...
John 5:37–38 ESV
37 And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, 38 and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent.
John 5:37 ESV
37 And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen,
The Fruit.
The Reward.
