I remember the first time I saw my wife. I was in the student section at Mississippi State Univ, enjoying the game. She was on the sideline as one of the team’s athletic Trainers. I was enjoying the game with friends, she was working. We were driving the ball down the field, from right to left.
We were playing Bret Farve and the Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi; winning handedly. They call a running play to the left, towards our sidelines. The running back gets knocked out of bounds. As he tried to control himself, he ended up stumbling forward. Most of the crowd moves out of the way. Most I say. There was a blond in a group who didn’t see him coming till it was too late. He hit her and took her off her feet. All I could see was her pony tail whip up in the air like she was at a rock concert.
Meeting my wife
First date...
Hot air baloon ride, what is she like?
All sorts of questions we were listening for.
Same here
Later I would come to love her compassion and desire to help others, but now I was filled with questions and drawn to her smile.
That was the first time I remember seeing my future wife. It was much later that I was introduced to her and I was struck by her smile. It was much later that I would be blown away by her compassion and desire to help others.
When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
Q: will he love us, like we love us?
Will they love me and my family like we need to be?
Q: will he love our church the most?
Will they love Jesus more than their church?
Q: will he help us reach new people?
Will they be willing to do what it takes to reach new people?
Q: What is he going to change?
Q: Is he going to be there for me when i need him?
Q: Will he wear a tie?
Q: What is he like?
Q: What
Love
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Sin
We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
Salvation
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
