I) Introduction

II) We are powerless and worthless, but Christ died for us (V. 6-7)

We were helpless
weak
worthless
useless
helpless
spiritually unable to help ourselves
(NKJV)
12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
b. We are ungodly
different from God
God is perfect
man imperfect
c. It is in God’s appointed time Christ died for us.
Man needs to understand he is ungodly and needs a savior before he will accept Christ!
(NKJV)
15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
d. Christ dies for us
For our benefit
Our behalf
in our place
e. A few people may die for a friend
Christ died for those who rejected Him

III) We sin against God, but He demonstrates His love for us (V. 8-9)

God shows His love despite our sin.
Those who disobey
live selfishly
Refusing to follow God’s will
Doing their own thing
Lust
Pride
God showed His love by giving His son to die in our place
taking his spiritual power and giving him flesh
humiliating him
watching his son suffer and be abused
had to lay all the sins of the world on him
had to bear the pain of Jesus suffering and death
(NKJV)
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
c. Because Christ shed His blood we are Justified!
(NKJV)
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

IV) We are enemies of God , but He reconciles and saves us

God saves us by HIS LIFE
Not HIS DEATH
Without the resurrection His death would not have meant anything.
WE HAVE IT WRONG
It is by Christ LIFE before God we are saved!
He stands in our place NOW before God to justify us.
(NKJV)
34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
b. Believing in Christ
means God counts it as Righteousness
