And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

I. Satan was the reason for redemption. There could be no redemption without defeating him.

II. Jesus’ victory over Satan was threefold.

A. Victory in the Earthwalk.

1. God had to come Himself

2. The Incarnation was the masterstroke of strategy.

3. God invaded the sense world where natural man lived.

4. ,— The first combat Jesus won!

C. Victory in the new creation.

1. The most humiliating defeat of all—to be made subordinate to men who were once helplessly his SIN SLAVES!

III. New Creation realites

A. The new creation is an absolute master over the adversary. We have been given the right to wear the whole armour of God.

B. We have the nature of God dwelling in us.

C. Satan had never figured on having to deal face to face with God Himself in dealing with men. FIRST, Jesus… now, US!

D. When Satan deals with the new creation, he is dealing with the third person of the Godhead ---- a son, filled with the Holy Spirit.
