Freedom! What is it?

Some of you are facing freedom.
Each person in your group define freedom in your own terms. Call on one person per group.
a : the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action
b : liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another : INDEPENDENCE
We are all slaves to something. When i worked at Haas i had to come in 5 days a week for 10 hours a day. Was i free then?
I chose to be at work so i could have the freedom to drive my car. The freedom to go on trips to buy food i wanted. But i CHOSE to be there.
True freedom is not doing whatever we feel when we feel it. That is chaos. We are then salves to our feelings. Where does that get us? What if you did everything you felt or wanted? What if everyone did that? Chaos.
We need to redefine freedom. The only person who can do that for us is the one free person.
Read in your group

Everyone is a salve to sin

Everyone filters what they do. You are subjecting yourself to a law. And sometimes your filter leads you to freedom.
What
Name some choices in your life that have given you freedom.
When I subject myself to a good choice i become free. This is what God wants for us. But we aren't capable of doing this all the time. We do mess up.
These men were salves and they didn’t even know it.
When we are slaves we don’t even know it
Jesus was saying that we are all slaves to sin because we all have sinned. That means we all need a savior.
THE SON WILL SET YOU FREE. You have no other option of freedom.
Gen
Adam and Eve Freedom to slavery. They were slaves to hiding in a bush.
Name a time when a bad choice or sin left you in slavery. eg. Covering lies.
Adam and Eve became salves to sin and hid. But the truth was that God already had a plan to free them. Therefor freedom was running to God.
The truth will set you free to run to Jesus and cover your shame. Adam and Eve hid. We do not have to hide. It has been paid for.
I broke a window and hid as a child. My parents could pay for it.
But we haven't been taught this. We have been taught to hide. There is freedom in Jesus. Jesus is the only one who can give freedom because we are born slaves to sin.
Luke 4:16–20 ESV
And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.
What is Jesus saying here? That he is there to give freedom.
How does he give freedom? By his life death and resurrection he has freed us. Now we need to go to him for freedom.
Pass out cards and ask the students of what they need to be set free from. We will gather them up and pray for them. but first i will ask you to pray in your groups over the things written down.
Jesus holds the key to freedom.
This doesn’t mean all your problems will go away. God is still working things out in us but as his children we will walk in complete freedom in heaven.
Highs and Lows.
If you are willing name something you need freedom from.
What ways have you tried to become free. (other then Jesus)
