Prayer

3 Things that Must precede all studies of Prayer

Prayer is not trying to get God’s attention (,

Hebrews 4:12–16 GW
God’s word is living and active. It is sharper than any two-edged sword and cuts as deep as the place where soul and spirit meet, the place where joints and marrow meet. God’s word judges a person’s thoughts and intentions. No creature can hide from God. Everything is uncovered and exposed for him to see. We must answer to him. We need to hold on to our declaration of faith: We have a superior chief priest who has gone through the heavens. That person is Jesus, the Son of God. We have a chief priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way that we are, but he didn’t sin. So we can go confidently to the throne of God’s kindnessto receive mercy and find kindness, which will help us at the right time.

2.Prayer is not trying to get God to do something (, , ,)

Hebrews 4:3 GW
We who believe are entering that place of rest. As God said, “So I angrily took a solemn oath that they would never enter my place of rest.” God said this even though he had finished his work when he created the world.
Hebrews 6:12 GW
Then, instead of being lazy, you will imitate those who are receiving the promises through faith and patience.
Hebrews 10:35 GW
So don’t lose your confidence. It will bring you a great reward.

3. Prayer is communication with God—believing and receiving what he has already given to us in Jesus

Prayer --- The Source

, , , ,
Isaiah 59:1 GW
The Lord is not too weak to save or his ear too deaf to hear.
1 John 3:22 KJV 1900
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1 John 4:17–18 KJV 1900
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
Luke 18:1 KJV 1900
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

I. There are only 2 reasons any person has not- because they ask not or because they ask amiss (,)

James 4:1–4 GW
What causes fights and quarrels among you? Aren’t they caused by the selfish desires that fight to control you? You want what you don’t have, so you commit murder. You’re determined to have things, but you can’t get what you want. You quarrel and fight. You don’t have the things you want, because you don’t pray for them. When you pray for things, you don’t get them because you want them for the wrong reason—for your own pleasure. You unfaithful people! Don’t you know that love for this ⌊evil⌋ world is hatred toward God? Whoever wants to be a friend of this world is an enemy of God.

2. The believer has weapons that guarantee results

A. The Name of Jesus

B. The Word of God (, ; ,)

2 Peter 1:2–4 GW
May good willand peace fill your lives through your knowledge about Jesus, our God and Lord! God’s divine power has given us everything we need for life and for godliness. This power was given to us through knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and integrity. Through his glory and integrity he has given us his promises that are of the highest value. Through these promises you will share in the divine nature because you have escaped the corruption that sinful desires cause in the world.

C. The Power of the Holy Ghost (,

Romans 8:26–29 GW
At the same time the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we don’t know how to pray for what we need. But the Spirit intercedes along with our groans that cannot be expressed in words. The one who searches our hearts knows what the Spirit has in mind. The Spirit intercedes for God’s people the way God wants him to. We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God—those whom he has called according to his plan. This is true because he already knew his people and had already appointed them to have the same form as the image of his Son. Therefore, his Son is the firstborn among many children.

III.Let him ask in faith---nothing wavering (,). God will hear you!! ,)

Romans 4:16 GW
Therefore, the promise is based on faith so that it can be a gift.Consequently, the promise is guaranteed for every descendant, not only for those who are descendants by obeying Moses’ Teachings but also for those who are descendants by believing as Abraham did. He is the father of all of us,

IV. Our struggle is not with God! We must learn to enter in His rest.
