The Requirement for Restoration and Revival

I. WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR ME TO GENUINELY REPENT?

A. A heart of humility before the Lord

B. A passionate praying for the face of God

II. HOW AM I TO RESPOND AFTER WE REPENT? (v17)

2 Chronicles 7:17 ESV

And as for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, doing according to all that I have commanded you and keeping my statutes and my rules,

Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.

III. WHY DOES THE LORD CALL ME TO REPENT?

A. The Lord desires to experientially abide with me

2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV

if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.

Strong tower: protection from enemies that pursue us

The Lord is promising He will be this to us this morning.

Experientially:

To know something by experience

God desires for you to experience His manifest presence so that you are strengthened for the battles ahead. When you have tasted revival, or the presence of the Lord, it changes you and it changes how you experience the rest of life!

David – The Lord delivered me from the hands of the Lion and a bear surely…

His past experience of the manifest presence of the Lord to deliver Him from a lion and a bear served as his confidence in God before Goliath

Do you see the beauty of repenting in this way? – You get God’s nearness

Do you see the tragedy in not? – The Lord will forsake you

2 Chronicles 15:2 ESV

and he went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: The Lord is with you while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

B. The Lord desires to show me that He knows

§ Eyes were understood as representing gathering of information and, therefore, “knowing.”

C. The Lord desires to unleash His love and delight on me

§ heart” is used metaphorically for the seat of emotions in contrast to logic and reason
