The steps to Prayer

I. Prayer that brings results must be based on God’s Word. Start with the answer which is the Word(, , , ; ,

If you live in me and what I say lives in you, then ask for anything you want, and it will be yours.

And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

II. Begin the application of faith.

A. Confession

So we must make every effort to enter that place of rest. Then no one will be lost by following the example of those who refused to obey. God’s word is living and active. It is sharper than any two-edged sword and cuts as deep as the place where soul and spirit meet, the place where joints and marrow meet. God’s word judges a person’s thoughts and intentions. No creature can hide from God. Everything is uncovered and exposed for him to see. We must answer to him. We need to hold on to our declaration of faith: We have a superior chief priest who has gone through the heavens. That person is Jesus, the Son of God. We have a chief priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way that we are, but he didn’t sin. So we can go confidently to the throne of God’s kindnessto receive mercy and find kindness, which will help us at the right time.

B. Act as though it was already done (, To be afraid to confess or act as though it is already done is to doubt God’s Word.

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

III. Refuse to allow doubts and fear to enter your consciousness.

A. Satan works in the area of suggestions, dreams and visions. Visions, dreams, etc. must agree completely with the Word. Refer to Point I.

B. You are the establishing witness. Satan (doubt, etc. ) is on one hand saying that you dont have it;, the Word is on the other hand saying that you do.

C. -, Control your mind with the Word.

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

D. Dwell on the answer instead of the problem.

E. Refuse to accept anything against you and your receiving! Most people will try to talk you out of your stand of faith on the Word.

IV. See yourself succeed, not fail.
