So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him. 20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, †Go back again: for what have I done to thee? 21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

2 Peter 1:9
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
Matthew 22:11
“But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply. Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
“For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The Cost Of Catching Mantels
The Cost Of Catching Mantels
We can learn a lot concerning how God chooses or calls people into ministry, If we study Jesus as the greatest role model. We see that all the men he selected had jobs and he approached them while they where working, We also see his call for them to leave what they get paid doing, to follow him with no promise of wordly wealth but a guarantee that they will make a difference in other peoples lives.
But also what is not said but proven is, When God calls you he also provides a Leader to train you, And your trained before you serve.. shows how God frowns on unprepared servants.
Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply
Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

“For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The 12 walked, ate, sleep, followed for 3 1/2 years with Jesus..
So this brings me to the main text, Elijah the burnt out prophet had ran from Jezebal and was frustrated feeling as though he was the only one in the kingdom that was saved and serving God. The Lord finally in
15 Then the Lord told him, “Go back the same way you came, and travel to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive there, anoint Hazael to be king of Aram. 16 Then anoint Jehu grandson of Nimshi* to be king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from the town of Abel-meholah to replace you as my prophet. 17 Anyone who escapes from Hazael will be killed by Jehu, and those who escape Jehu will be killed by Elisha! 18 Yet I will preserve 7,000 others in Israel who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him!”

Please What ever you do, never let the enemy whisper in your ear you the only one saved!! its a lie from the pits of hell.....
So Elijah went and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field
Elijah went and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field
Sounds like what Jesus did when he found his disciples
Lets unpack few keys of the cost of catching mantles in this text
Elisha was called by God, but found by a man of God..
He was able to find him working the field with 12 teams
12 represents Governmental Order, It also represents the 12 tribes of Isreal
He found him with 12 but he was last, and last shall be first..... this showed his humility to be a leader but willing to following..
New Living Translation Chapter 19
Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak across his shoulders and then walked away
19th verse Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon Him..
This was an investiture ( he vested him as a prophet) in the Office of a Prophet. In the East the priest would throw their mantle across a mantee shoulders,
Elisha had probably been educated in the school of prophets and was aware of what just happen..
Elisha wanted to kiss and say goodby before following the man of God
Elijah released him to do so, but reminded him keep in mind the solemn ceremony i have just performed on thee. It is not I, but God, who calls thee. Don’t allow any earthly affection to detain you from obeying your calling.
21st Verse Elisha returned to his oxen and slaughtered them.. he used the wood from the plow to build the fire to roast their flesh. He passed around the meat to the towns-people they all ate.
He went back to the thing he was doing when God called him to the office of prophet assistant.
He destroyed any possibility to return to what he loved and what produced income,
He served the people of his town with a fare well meal with Bison Steaks.
See right hear is the greatest example of a answered call, he forsook everything he was familiar with to follow on a level he was unfamiliar with.. (faith)
See To get something that belongs to God but you want it requires a cost. Its going to cost you your personal time, your personal seed, your personal need it take killing off yokes....
But wait Elijah i will follow you but we didn’t fast like this at back side baptist, or pimping Pentecotal assemblies..
Many are called and few are chosen, because many aren’t in agreement with the direction of the leader.. so they standing at the wedding sticking out like a terd in the punch bole
Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply
He had no legitimate excuse why he wasn’t dressed
Please hear me, we are living in a society that questions leadership and will protest anything they don’t agree with. This behavior has slipped into the Church.. And yokes aren’t being destroyed.
Elisha slew them, and went after his Elijah.. They way the enemy works is to make children disobey and dishoner there parents, and he wants Christians to do the same to the leader over the Flock.
But gave me my man of God.. To lead me, teach to, mentor me and push me into my purpose..
But look at this take this home with you, Elijah found Elisha cast his mantle on him. But it was Elisha responsibility to follow him.. Tap your neighbor and tell them chase after your Elijah
