On that foundation, any situation life brings is opportunity to glory in living.

Purchase of salvation from the Devil/death/bondage
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

What is the hope? The Gospel!
Stand on the Gospel
Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.
Jesus died on the cross
Was buried
Was resurrected forevermore
The shed blood of Jesus is the best news we will ever know!
Do you personally know the Gospel? Are you spiritually born again in Jesus?
We stand on the Gospel! Now let’s talk about Glorying in suffering.
Let us glory in our sufferings
Let us glory in our sufferings
It’s one thing to sit in a Bible study and talk about the Bible. It’s a lot tougher to stand and walk out the Bibles truth in day to day living.
This is where you really find what you are made of!
If you fail under pressure,
your strength is too small.

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Suffering produces perseverance
Suffering produces perseverance
“He that has long been on the road to Heaven finds that there was good reason why it was promised that his shoes should be iron and brass, for the road is rough.”
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Jon Courson’s Application Commentary Chapter 5
thlipsis
For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
Romans
Thlipsis - Greek for crushing, squashing, sqeezing, distress.
The same word is used for pressing olives.
The pressure of persecution will force the content of your heart into the open for you and others to see.
Do you run every time the pressure is on?
Perseverance produces character
Perseverance produces character
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
“Be thankful for the providence which has made you poor, or sick, or sad; for by all this Jesus works the life of your spirit and turns you to himself.”
Stick with Jesus and you’ll enjoy strengthening character! And so will we!
Don’t we all like a person of character.
We pray our kids marry one
We pray we do business with one
We hope our best friends are people of character
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
Character produces hope
Character produces hope
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans
A stronger character finds a deeper dependance and leaning on the Lord.
How can we glory in suffering?
True tribulation is bigger than your ability. You are not able to “Work” your way out of it. Nobody can talk you through it. Only the touch and leading of Jesus can lead you to hope.
Hope does not put to shame
Conclusion:
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Are you broken? Is your heart heavy with suffering?
For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
Are you fighting for control or fighting to lay your life in Jesus’ hands?
Gethsemane: “Oil Press”
Jesus was pressed to the point of sweating great drops of blood.
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
He concluded with, ‘Not my will, but yours be done.”
Can you boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ?
