The freeing of a person from guilt and its consequences, including punishment; usually as an act of favour, compassion or love, with the aim of restoring a broken personal relationship. Forgiveness can involve both the remission of punishment and the cancellation of debts.

God our Father in Heaven help us today to see what Isaac did and apply it to our lives! Some of us here today have been hurt LORD you know that. It is hard to forgive when we have been so badly wounded by another. God give us your wisdom as we seek to pursue a life characterized by the love and forgiveness that your Spirit brings and your Word commands! God help us we pray!

26 When Abimelech went to him from Gerar with Ahuzzath his adviser and Phicol the commander of his army,
27 Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, seeing that you hate me and have sent me away from you?”
28 They said, “We see plainly that the Lord has been with you. So we said, let there be a sworn pact between us, between you and us, and let us make a covenant with you,
29 that you will do us no harm, just as we have not touched you and have done to you nothing but good and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of the Lord.”
30 So he made them a feast, and they ate and drank.
31 In the morning they rose early and exchanged oaths. And Isaac sent them on their way, and they departed from him in peace.
32 That same day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well that they had dug and said to him, “We have found water.”
33 He called it Shibah; therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.
26-27 = Isaac confronts his offender personally.
30-31 = Isaac accepts the terms of peace and shows grace and mercy to the one who offended him.
33 = Once the terms have been agreed and forgiveness given it is permanent.

I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 33 And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ 34 And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. 35 So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.”
Jesus makes this comparison because of the scripture in which says...
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
We received Mercy
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”
3. Why scripture says we should do this
The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
If we do not practice forgiveness we ourselves are not forgiven!
