God Made You To Be Super
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

What
Have you ever seen how big the sky is? It is huge. And the Bible says something really amazing about the sky.

How many of you have ever seen one of these? (Hold up the measuring up) Where have you seen this? In your kitchen? Have you ever seen your mom pour flour or sugar for a recipe into one these? What is she doing? She is measuring how much is in it? The Bible tells us that when God wanted to measure the oceans, He needed something really big to hold it. A measuring cup would not be big enough. A bath tub would not be big enough. A swimming pool would not even be big enough. So God found the biggest thing He could find- His own hand and He measured the water in the oceans in His hand.
So what does that tell us about God’s hands? They are big. That is right.
How many of you have ever seen one of these? (hold up a tape measure) Have you ever seen your dad use one of these? What is he doing? That’s right. He is measuring how long something is. Let’s see, I am gonna measure my height here. I am 71 inches tall. That means I am 5 feet, 11 inches tall.
Scientists tells us that the universe is so big, that if you could get in a space ship and fly at the Speed of Light, it would take
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
God is so big that he
God said the light was what?
Good.
Everything that God makes is good.
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so.
God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
God called the land and seas what?
Good.
Everything that God makes is good.
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.
The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:
God said the plants and trees were what?
Good.
Everything that God makes is good.
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,
and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.
God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
God said the sun and moon and stars were what?
Good.
Everything that God makes is good.
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.”
So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:20-21
God said the fish and the birds were what?
Good.
Everything that God makes is good.
And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so.
God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
God said the animals were what?
Good.
Everything that God makes is good.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

God said everything He made was what?
Good.
Everything that God makes is good.
Who made people? God.
So are people good?
Yes.
God certainly made people good.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Does God make junk? No.
Why?
Everything that God makes is good.
Who made you?
God.
everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”
People brag when they do something good.
God made you so good He intends to brag about you to show off what an incredible creator He is.
God makes things different and special to help them thrive in their environment and to do what He has created them to do.

Imagine if God had made bees the size of elephants? I don’t know about you, but I think that would be pretty scary. What if a bee got tired and stopped flapping his wings and dropped on top of your head. Squish.

Or what about the elephant with his long trunk.
Did you know elephants can smell water from from miles away? Why? Because they have a really long nose. And their trunk helps feed them, and they can use it like a snorkel to breath if they go under water. And of course, those long trunks help them give themselves a shower.
God is a brilliant craftsman and God does not make any junk.
And God made you. So if God made you, and everything God makes is good, then that means God made you...
That is right. Good. Wonderful. You are special, and unique and perfectly designed to do what God called you to do.
So I want to help you understand what we mean when we talk about how God makes good things.
Today is SuperSunday, so I am going to make a SuperSundae!
Get the bowl. Add IceCream!
What did God say when He made the day? It is good.
How many of you think icecream is good?
And if icecream is good, then MORE ICECREAM IS BETTER RIGHT?
I mean if we want this to be a SuperSundae, then we need to make it SuperRight!
And SuperSundaes should have lots of icecream, so I am going to add a little bit more here.
How is this Sundae looking to you guys? Good! I agree.
Now, let me see, what else do we usually put in a Sundae. That is right. Chocolate sauce!
So let me add a little chocolate here. Hmm. I don’t think that is enough. Do you?
I love hot fudge.
What does
Let’s see. Hot Fudge?
When God made land and the oceans, what did God say?
It is good!
How would more chocolate be?
Good. I agree. Let’s add more. You know what, let’s just add it all...
Start pouring the entire bottle of hot fudge!
I love hot fudge.
Let’s see.
Now what else do we add to IceCream Sundaes?
Strawberry sauce? Yup. Let’s add some strawberry sauce.
What did God say about the birds and the fish and the animals?
It is good.
What do you think God would say about adding strawberry sauce to our SuperSundae?
It is good.
And what goes on top of a SuperSundae?
Whip Cream!!!
I love whip cream.
Spray some in mouth. Spray whip cream on the Sundae.
So what do you guys think about our SuperSundae?
It is good.
God made everything in the world and said it is good. And when he made people, he made them good and gave them special abilities.
Go
Some can sing beautiful songs. Some can hit home runs or run super fast. Some a really smart. Some are really kind and patient and help other people. Some are good at working with animals. And they are all different. Every person is unique and special.
We all have different finger prints. We are all unique. And that is a good thing. It is a part of God’s amazing creativity.
God made man and said, “It is good.”
However, since that time something has happened. Because if we look around, sometimes things don’t seem good. People do mean things. They lie, cheat, hurt each other, kill each other. Are those things good? No.
Well if God made everything good, then where did all this badness come from?
It came from the devil. He caused people to sin.
Well what is sin? Sin is when we disobey God.
When do something God told us not to do- like Adam and Eve who ate the fruit in the garden of Eden.
Or when we don’t do something we should do, like giving food to a poor person.
Sin is like having dirt in our hearts. Sin contaminates all the wonderful things God has made.
Now our Sundae here that we made is wonderful. It is good.
And I think I need a volunteer. Anyone here today who would be willing to come up and help me by tasting this Sundae?
Ok, are you ready to taste this for me to tell me if it is good.
But what would happen if we put dirt on the Sundae?
That would be awful right. It would ruin everything. We made it good, but if someone chose to put dirt in the Sundae it would be messed up so bad you could not fix it.
How would you guys feel if we ruined this whole SuperSundae with dirt?
It would be awful right.
That is how God feels about sin. Any time there is sin, it ruins everything.
What if we only put just an itty bitty teaspoon of dirt. Just a wee little bit?
Let’s try it. I am just going to sprinkle a little sin.
Are you ready to taste it now?
Dump all of the dirt on the Sundae. It was so good. We made it good. But what happened? The dirt contaminated it. That is what sin does to our hearts. It contaminates it. It makes it dirty.
And that is exactly what sin does to our hearts. God made us good, but when sin entered into our lives it messed up everything.

Object Lesson: choose a gift
Why did you choose that gift?
When we do what we think is right, we will always go the wrong way. Why? Because our hearts are contaminated by sin.
Our hearts are like compasses that point the wrong way. If we follow a compass that points the wrong way, we will end up going the wrong way. And if we follow our hearts, we will end up going the wrong way.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
