In verse 20 the writer wants to stress two ideas without completely harmonizing them:
(1) through His blood the exalted Jesus once for all accomplished the atonement of the people of God and established an eternal covenant; and
(2) after His resurrection Christ became the shepherd/leader of the new covenant community. Christians belong to the fold of the great Shepherd because they have been bonded to Him by the eternal covenant.

How is this text a fitting conclusion to the message of Hebrews?
If Christians still sin, is it still possible for us to live a life that pleases God? Why or why not? If Christians sin and can still live a life pleasing to God, can an unbeliever live a life that pleases God? Why or why not?
Why does the author of Hebrews mention the resurrection of Christ in verse 20? What does that have to do with living to please God? How does that make you feel? How does this impact the way we view our own inadequacies?
Read . Is it the believer who is to work? Or, is it God who is at work? What makes the believer’s work possible and effective? How does this help us interpret ?
We are told that Christ is the great shepherd of the sheep and that the eternal covenant was sealed by His blood. How are these things relevant to Christians who want to live pleasing to God?
