Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

II. It is by God’s power that we can live pleasing to Him.

Same resurrection power can enable us to do God’s will.

The assumption is that only as God provides the community with every good grace will they be enabled to do his will.

III. It is through Christ that we are enabled to live pleasing to God.

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

III. It is through Christ that we are enabled to live pleasing to God.

filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
In verse 20 the writer wants to stress two ideas without completely harmonizing them:
(1) through His blood the exalted Jesus once for all accomplished the atonement of the people of God and established an eternal covenant; and
(2) after His resurrection Christ became the shepherd/leader of the new covenant community. Christians belong to the fold of the great Shepherd because they have been bonded to Him by the eternal covenant.

IV. It is for God’s glory that we live pleasing to Him.

How is this text a fitting conclusion to the message of Hebrews?
If Christians still sin, is it still possible for us to live a life that pleases God? Why or why not? If Christians sin and can still live a life pleasing to God, can an unbeliever live a life that pleases God? Why or why not?
Why does the author of Hebrews mention the resurrection of Christ in verse 20? What does that have to do with living to please God? How does that make you feel? How does this impact the way we view our own inadequacies?
Read . Is it the believer who is to work? Or, is it God who is at work? What makes the believer’s work possible and effective? How does this help us interpret ?
