Round Two
Intro – Bio-dome
CIS – God is growing your faith through struggle.
Illustration – Walter Rauff. Where is justice?
I. Identifying with Habakkuk
1. Where is your justice? – 1. v.13-17. 2. Is this justice? Will the wicked go on unchecked? Will mankind forever be food for the wicked?
2. Making it personal – 1.
3. Tempered by faith – 1. Not insults in the form of questions, but questions; expecting. 2. Balance by faith; v.12. 3. Honestly, expectantly, and trusting.
II. The answer you need – Jesus’ answers
1. Significance – 1. v.2-3
2. NT handling – 1. Two points in three quotes. 2. Rom. 1.17, Gal. 3.11; the righteous are those who have faith. 3. Heb. 10.38; the righteous live by faith.
3. Reestablishing context – 1. “I know you don’t understand the ‘how’, but you must trust in me.” 2. The example of Abraham.
4. Wrestling – 1. This is hard, but it is life.
III. The answer you wanted
1. Justice will come in the end – 1. 6-8, pillager pillaged. 2. 9-11, fortified dismantled. 3. 12-14, civilized demoralized. 4. 15-17, shameless defamed. 5. 18-20, idolatrous powerless.
2. The content of faith – 1. Faith in faith; hand grasping a hand. 2. Promise is the soil to sink roots in. 3. We have a better object, Christ. 4. We have seen every ‘how’; all we have to do is wait.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith."
Gal 3:10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them." 3:11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for "The righteous shall live by faith." 3:12 But the law is not of faith, rather "The one who does them shall live by them." 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree"— 3:14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.
Heb 10:35 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 10:36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. 10:37 For, "Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; 10:38 but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him." 10:39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.
