<+B>THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

>

<+B>BORN AGAIN

<+B>

<+B>John 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

<+B>John 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art

a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be

with him.

<+B>John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be

born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

<+B>John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter

the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

<+B>John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and

<[>of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

<+B>John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is <+#><+!>born<-#><-!> <+#><+!>of<-#><-!> <+#><+!>the<-#><-!> <+#><+!>Spirit<-#><-!> <+#><+!>is<-#><-!>

<+#><+!>spirit.

<+#><+!><+B>

<+#><+!><+B>

<+#><+!><+B><-#><-!>I Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of

God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

<+B>

<+B>A. Spiritual Death

<+B>The Bible tells us when man was created that he had a personal relationship with God.

<+B>But sin came into his life and when it did the relationship was broken, and man died

spiritually, and handed on that spiritual death to all his descendants.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>Man is made up of three parts --

<+B>Body = your physical nature - soul= psychological nature (intellect, will, and emotions) - and

your spirit= the very inmost part of you.

<+B>

<+B>I Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and <[>I pray God] your

whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus

Christ.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>The very inmost part of us is our spirit, and this was created in us, to know God.

<+B>When man broke that fellowship in the Garden of Eden, that inmost part died, or went out

of action, and man ever since then has operated on his soul and body.

<+B>

<+B>Can you see why things are such a mess.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>The Problem

<+B>Man was dead in his trespasses and sins, seperated from God.

<+B>The great and desperate need then is to come alive, to get back in touch with God.

<+B>

<+B>The Answer

<+B>That is what Jesus is offering.

<+B>Through Christ and Christ alone we can come alive to God once again.

<+B>John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that

they might have life, and that they might have <[>it] more abundantly.

<+B>

<+B>You see God is love, but He also is justice. He cannot lie.

<+B>God said the wages of sin is death, and a penalty, a price had to be paid for sin. That penalty

was death.

<+B>

<+B>This is what Jesus did for us. He met the requirements of justice by dying for us. Justice and

love were both satisfied.

<+B>

<+B> It had to be a perfect sacrifice that was offered on the

<+B>alter at Calvary. Jesus was without sin or guilt. When Jesus died on the cross, because he was

God the son, and because he was innocent, he forever satisfied justice on behalf of all the

sins that man had committed, or would ever commit.

<+B>

<+B> In this way Jesus solved the problem of our guilt that

<+B>was keeping us from the Father, and when He died and rose again, the way was open for the

Lord to send the Holy Spirit, so that God's life was able to come and live in us.

<+B>

<+B>Our requirement is to ask.

<+B>Ask for forgiveness and ask for Jesus to come in and live in us and be our Lord and Saviour.

<+B>

<+B>When you do, the Holy Spirit comes in and joins Himself to our spirit, and brings it from

death to life, it is born again, and becomes a new creature.

<+B>I Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

<+B>

<+B>When you received Jesus as your Saviour, your spirit came alive, and began to assert it's new

life and take it's place as head over your soul, and body.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

<+B> In this day and time we need everything that we can get

<+B>and to do everything that we can do to destroy the works of the enemy.

<+B>

<+B> God has given us a great tool to use and we should be

<+B>using it.

<+B>Most Christians do not use it, because they do not understand

<+B>it. So tonight by guidance of the Holy Spirit I will speak to you about the Baptism in the Holy

Spirit.

<+B>

<+B>We bought Mom and Dad a food processor for a gift one time.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>There are different terms that people use for it, such as:

<+B>Baptism in or with the Holy Spirit, receiving the Holy Spirit, Pentecost, receiving power, or

the falling on of the Holy Spirit. All these are expressions of the same truth, viewed from

different sides.

<+B>

<+B>I usually refer to it as the Baptism In The Holy Spirit.

<+B>In John 1:33, God called it the Baptism With The Holy Ghost.

<+B>In Acts 1:5, Jesus called it Baptism With The Holy Ghost.

<+B>Matthew 3:11 - Mark 1:8 - Luke 3:16 - John 1:33

<+B>and Peter in Acts 11:16 called it the Baptism With The Holy Spirit.

<+B>If it is good enough for them, then it's good enough for me.

<+B>

<+B>It is called the Baptism In the Holy Spirit because it is a Baptism, meaning a drenching, an

overflowing, an overwhelming.

<+B>The word Baptize in the Greek means to comletely suffuse, meaning - sunken, like a water

logged ship.

<+B>

<+B>The Holy Spirit suffuses our body and soul from within us.

<+B>He lives within you and therefore it is from within that He can flood your soul and body.

<+B>

<+B>Jesus says, John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall

flow rivers of living water.

<+B>Those rivers that He is talking about is the Holy Spirit.

<+B>

<+B>When we receive Jesus as Saviour, the Holy Spirit comes in, but as we continue to trust and

believe Jesus, the indwelling Spirit can <+!>pour<-!> <+!>out<-!> to suffuse our body and soul, and refresh

the world around.

<+B>This is why in scripture the first evidence of this Pentecost experience is an outpouring:

<+B>Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other

tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers

of living water.

<+B>In this scripture it talks about the belly which in the Greek is Koilia - which refers to the

physical body. It is by the physical body and it's speech and actions that we contact our

environment and the people around us.

<+B>The world is not going to be helped or challenged until it sees and hears and experiences

Jesus' life flowing from us.

<+B>

<+B>Let me give you an example.

<+B>Think about an irrigation ditch where it is dry most of the year. The canal is dry and so are

the fields around.

<+B>Vegetation

<+B>Then the gates are opened from reservoir, and the canal begins to fill with water.

<+B>First of all the canal itself is refreshed.

<+B>The scriptural order is that God blesses you first, then blesses others through you.

<+B>Genesis 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name

great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

<+B>Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in

thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>Inflow and Outflow

<+B>The bible says that there is one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism.

<+B>

<+B>I believe there are two parts to Baptism.

<+B>1. Inflow is salvation, the first half of Baptism is when you receive Jesus, the Holy Spirit

comes in: baptises = soaks, drenches, overwhelms your spirit, and brings it to new life.

<+B>2. The second half of Baptism is when the Holy Spirit living in your spirit, flows out to

baptize your soul - intellect, will, and emotions, and your body and bring them to knew life,

freedom, joy, and peace in and through the Lord Jesus. Then He can flow out into the world

from you to bring, love, joy, and peace to other people.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>What you are not trying to do.

<+B>

<+B>1. Remember that you are not trying to get the Holy Spirit to come into you. God cant give

you the Holy Spirit, for the simple reason that you already have Him if you are born again.

<+B>Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name

of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

<+B>

<+B>2.Get more of the Holy Spirit.

<+B>The Holy Spirit is a personal being

<+B>When you receive the Holy Ghost, you receive all of Him, not part of Him.

<+B>John's sitting in your living room.

<+B>You dont ask - How much of John do you have in your house.

<+B>How much of your house is John in.

<+B>

<+B>As we read the scriptures it tells us that, when they received the Baptism with the Holy

Spirit, they began to speak in new languages.

<+B>

<+B>Acts 2:4 8:5-25 10:44-48 19:1-7

<+B>

<+B>There is two ways of speaking in tongues:

<+B>1. Prayer language

<+B>2. Gift of tongues

<+B>

<+B><+#>The<-#> <+#>gift<-#> <+#>of<-#> <+#>tongues<-#> is a special kind of speaking in tongues in which someone brings words

from God to a group of people.

<+B>This message is specially given for the occasion, and requires interpretation by the Holy

Spirit so that it can be understood.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B><+#>The<-#> <+#>prayer<-#> <+#>language

<+#><+B><-#>This is what you receive when you are Baptized With The Spirit.

<+B>This is a way of speaking in tongues which any believer can use at any time.

<+B>The Apostle Paul calls it Praying In The Spirit.

<+B>I Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in an <[>unknown] tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my

understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with

the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

<+B>

<+B>And this is what he is referring to when he says I want you all to speak in tongues. 1

Corinthians 14:5

<+B>or when He says, in I Corinthians 14:18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye

all:

<+B>or in Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and

watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

<+B>

<+B>Praying in tongues, simply means that you speak to God, but instead of using the words you

know in your own language, you trust the Holy Spirit to give the words He chooses in

whatever language He selects.

<+B>

<+B>When you begin to speak this way you make a path for the Holy Spirit to move out from your

innermost being - your spirit to baptize your soul and body

<+B>

<+B>You are letting God have a greater influence over your whole being. It helps you to grow

spiritually.

<+B>I Corinthians 14:4 He that speaketh in an <[>unknown] tongue edifieth himself; but he that

prophesieth edifieth the church.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>

<+B><+#>Better<-#> <+#>Communication<-#> <+#>with<-#> <+#>God

<+#><+B>Praying<-#> <+#>for<-#> <+#>the<-#> <+#>right<-#> <+#>things.

<+#><+B>

<+#><+B>

<+#><+B><-#>Speaking in tongues makes you able to talk to God and Praise Him exactly as He wants you

to, which brings a more open relationship with Him.

<+B>The same with inward sins and problems.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>Speaking in tongues, the prayer language does these things for you.

<+B>

<+B>I Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an <[>unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but

unto God: for no man understandeth <[>him]; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

<+B>1.When you speak in tongues no one understands including you what you are saying, so that

you cant modify or add to it so that your prayer comes right through the way God wants it.

<+B>Including the Devil.

<+B>

<+B>2. It begins to set you free in the Spirit.

<+B>

<+B>I Corinthians 14:4 He that speaketh in an <[>unknown] tongue edifieth himself; but he that

prophesieth edifieth the church.

<+B>3.It helps you communicate with God in new freedon and so edifies or builds you up in your

own spiritual life. It is a simple and refreshing way to pray, and it will bring rest to your soul.

<+B>

<+B>Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we

should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings

which cannot be uttered.

<+B>4.It gives you the ability to pray more effectively to get God's will done in the world around

you.

<+B>The Holy Spirit intercedes through us.

<+B>

<+B>5. Speaking in tongues is a spiritual means for rejoicing.

<+B>I Corinthians 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the

understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

<+B>Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

<+B>Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and

making melody in your heart to the Lord;

<+B>

<+B>Emotions has nothing to do with it.

<+B>

<+B>I Corinthians 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual <[>gifts], but rather that ye may

prophesy.

<+B>

<+B>

<+B>Prayer

<+B>Father, I claim the protection of the blood of Jesus over us. I ask You to send your angels to

stand around us to drive away any spirit of fear, doubt, or confusion.

<+B>

<+B>Holy Spirit we ask for a new Pentecost here among Your people. WE praise you Lord:

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

<+B>

<+B>All Pray

<+B>Dear Jesus, I receive You as my Baptizer. Please Baptize me in the Holy Spirit.Thank you.

I receive! I accept the new language You have given me. Help me to release it.
