Welcome everybody!
We’re so excited you’re here for night 3 of VBS.
It’s a been a fun week.
Well, my name is Dakota Melton and I’m the student minister here.
What that means is, when you are in 7th grade, you and me will get to hang out on Sunday nights at church!
All 7-12th graders join in to what we call RUSH.
We meet on Sunday nights in The Pointe and in homes on Wednesdays to study God’s WORD, love on/serve each other, and worship Jesus together!
It’s a lot of fun and I look forward to you guys who will one day be 7th graders!
Well, tonight is a very special night!
Our whole church has gathered together to help put this Starveyor VBS on for you guys and everyone gets to serve you differently, and I get to serve you by sharing the Gospel tonight!
I’m very excited, so let’s get started.
Review
Each day you guys have been working through different parts of our VBS study… parts like...
Relationship Began
Relationship Broken
Restoration Promised
This restoration is what we’re gonna talk about tonight!
It’s called...
The Gospel...
So the Gospel is just a fancy word for “good news.”
And here’s the good news!
Jesus died for our sins.
Was buried in a tomb.
Rose from the tomb to life on the 3rd day!
What Jesus did was take the punishment for us on the cross and give us a relationship with God, again!
That’s a big deal, but here’s why the Gospel is called Good news.
It’s called Good news because of the bad news and here’s the bad news...
The Bad News is....
We are separated from God.
We sinned against Him.
We deserve the punishment.
That right there is the story of the Bible!
But here’s where it gets specific...
All week long we’ve been centered on the verse in Colossians where it says...
This verse and many others in the Bible show that God has made everything!
And he has!
He made everything including you and me.
He made everything so that we could enjoy it with Him.
Us and God used to have a perfect relationship in what the Bible calls Eden!
But...
Our great grandparents broke that relationship with God by not obeying Him when he gave instructions!
The Bible says that because our grandparents sinned, we all have sinned and disobeyed God.
That’s a big deal!
Because of our sin and because of how perfect God is, sin had to be punished!
That means there are consequences for our sin!
The Bible says that the consequence for sin is death!
That’s scary and sad!
It means that we are separated from God forever!
But...
God didn’t stop there!!
All of what I just shared is all a part of the bad news… Because God loves us, you, and me so much… he did something about this scary and sad truth.
God…joined us in it!
Even though God made absolutely everything and is SO MUCH bigger than everything he made, he joined us on this tiny planet to FIX what we broke!
He did it through Jesus.
JESUS
Joined us in our struggles!
Obeyed God perfectly even though we didn’t and do not obey God perfectly!
Took the punishment of SIN on his shoulders at the Cross.
He died our death.
Rose from the grave to give us life with God forever!
We can do this by just a few simple steps!
Admit
Agree with God that you are a sinner and disobeyed God.
That means tell him you need His forgiveness for disobeying.
Repent of your sin.
That means turn from what you were doing AND turning to Jesus.
Not just turning from bad things, but turning TO Jesus.
Believe
Jesus came to this Earth, lived a perfect life, and rose from the grave.
You are forgiven and that you couldn’t save yourself.
Only Jesus can save you.
Confess
Jesus is LORD, that means He’s the boss and He’s also your Savior.
You are born again into a new life telling others about Jesus who saved you!
Let’s pray.
