The Prayer that Changed Peter's Life
The Prayer that Changed Peter's Life
Jesus spent an entire night in prayer, a sure indication that the circumstances were pressing: the preceding controversy, the resultant threatening atmosphere, and the selection to be made of the twelve apostles. The second clause indicates that the first was not a routine devotional exercise
God wants his people to turn to him in prayer, individually and corporately, in times of need or crisis, and to bring requests to him as a Father
I Driven to Payer
How many of us Christians today have ever spent a whole night in prayer? In his prayer life, as in all else, the Lord Jesus stands far above even the best of us whose words about prayer need to be matched by the consistent practice of it.
He spent an entire night in prayer. Jesus had a large number of disciples and from those He picked 12 who were to be close to Him. These were specifically called apostles (apostolous) as opposed to the term disciples (mathētas). Disciples were followers, but apostles were those sent out as messengers with delegated authority

II Deciding on Peter
Jesus spent all night in prayer before choosing the twelve. What a rebuke this is to our impulsiveness and independence of God! Luke is the only evangelist who mentions this night of prayer.
