16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignationb, 18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. 19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, 20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
Introduction:
The disciples were following the instructions that they received to go preach the Gospel. Like Jesus himself they had to deal with opposition. They had to make a decision obey man or God.
! I. FACING OPPOSITION
The religious leaders had three reasons for arresting the Apostles and bringing them to trial.
1. For disobeying the official orders to stop preaching in the name of Jesus Christ. They were guilty of defying the law of the nation.
2. The church was giving every evidence that Jesus Christ was alive, Sadducee's did not believe in the resurrection, Acts 23:8
3. At the great success of these untrained and unauthorized men.the religious leaders were filled with envy (“indignation”).
Matthew 27:18
18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

My Influence
My Life shall touch a dozen lives
Before this day is done,
Leave countless marks of good or ill,
E’er sets the evening sun.
This, the wish I always wish,
The prayer I always pray;
Lord, may my life help other lives,
It touches by the way.
