How did God draw ethan to himself?
It's is a simple and guessable answer that I hope we never get tired of saying. It was Gods word in the Bible wrapped in spirit and truth that drew ethan into God.
The Bible that is our path says in James.
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror."
Ethan had to take a look honestly in the mirror of the Word? And ethan just didn't look at the mirror but ethan looked in the mirror so he could see see himself. God’s Word is indeed the mirror. He didn't look into what doctrine says about scripture because if Gods word is merely doctrine then it is no mirror and he would never truly see himself. Because you see, to see yourself is to die, to die to all illusions and all hypocrisy. It takes great courage to dare look at yourself – something which can take place only in the mirror of Gods Word.. You must want only the truth, not for flattery or because of guilt.
God reveled Himself to ethan through the account of King Saul and King David
Ethan saw the difference of two kings and the relationship the had or didn't have with God.
Scripture has the divine power to draw us out from the crowd doesn't it? He was like a powerful army commander that is ready to sign the terms of peace God showed him. Like most of us here he had to go through hell to taste divine freedom.
Ethan story shows that God reveled his need for forgiveness of his sins and showed Ethan that forgiveness of sins was that no one is able to forgive him of his sins except God, but also because none of us can do it without God.
When you look and ethan... when you hear ethan.... what you will see and hear is simply freedom. Freedom that really is freedom. The freedom that Jesus can only bring and Jesus brought Ethan to the altar, the altar of reconciliation. The freedom when in the same moment, the same second, it rushes with infinite speed to bind itself. Freedom is the choice whose truth is that there can be no question of any choice. It's what the disciples said to Jesus. "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.”
When ethan was sharing what God reveled of Himself. Ethan wasn't talking in ideas or what he thinks is true, he wasn't influenced by second hand information but that he was alive and present of the living God. Hearing him I couldn't help but notice that he was sound like a particular psalms and a psalm that David wrote. Now I don't want to embarrass ethan but he never knew the story of King Saul and King David. I asked him if he knows psalms 51. He has not. So I let him read it and you could see a young man that was after Gods heart and you could say you saw a young man that feels someone stole his words, feeling, and thoughts and discovered a great plagiarism. I'm going to end with reading this psalms that gives you all a look into Gods new creature and the work of the potter.

“Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there. Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me— now let me rejoice. Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you. Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves; then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness. Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you.”
