We have the gospel message that we might believe; and believing, we have eternal life. But when we doubt…

1. “If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.”

a. You have been taught right from wrong, secularly and spiritually, which is it that you choose? The righteous man chooses righteousness.

2. “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.”

a. This is in regard to choosing a life of sin. John covered this in “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”

3. “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.”

a. With love comes forgiveness. If we hold a grudge (and are not convicted of it) there is no love in us. God will convict His children to forgive even as He has forgiven us.

4. “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.”

a. This is a personal question, do you believe? Dead men cannot believe for they cannot hear and they cannot see. Once God has quickened a man’s spirit (meaning he has been born again of God) he can see and he can believe.

i. Quickened – “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

5. “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”

a. You have the victory! You need to claim it! “Yes, if I died today, I would go to heaven.

6. “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”

a. We are kept in Christ

b. “Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

c. “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”

7. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
