Introduction:
Introduction:
A famous Theologian once said:
“I went sky diving , I went rocky mountain climbing, I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named “fumanchu” and I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter and I gave forgiveness Id been denying. I hope someday that you’ll get the chance.... to live like you were dying.”
The point of the song: was that before the man singing the song was on the verge of death, there was alot of things he wished he would have done and now that he has been given a bleak report he is trying to do everything he can to soak up the life he has, in order to not have any regrets.
Do you ever feel like the things that are taking up your time and energy, are not fufilling?
Do you ever feel as though there are things that you hope to do one day but you don’t know when youll have the time?
The song i referenced was trying to say: “ if you knew the end it would change the priorities of the present”
As a Christian we know how the story ends we know that one day the clouds in the eastern sky are going to part and there will be a trumpet blast that shakes the world. Jesus will then be coming for His church. It is at this moment when everything that we have done with Jesus is going to matter. It wont matter if we have had a perfect church attendance record, it wont matter if we have been a minister. On that day the only thing that will matter is whether or not you knew Him. for the Christian the joy comes when He returns and we are found faithful.
Jesus speaks of this time with HD clarity in in a parable that many of us have heard before. But to give us clarity about the subject Jesus speaks about we need to understand that Jesus is speaking of the end of all things.
The focus of Jesus’ Teaching
The focus of Jesus’ Teaching
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
Matthew 24:36-
He references this again at the end in
Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Matthew 24:
This teaching by Jesus is simply called the doctrine of Immanent return. Which simply means that we do not know when the Lord shall return and we should live in light of this fact. That reality should shape and drive the Christians life toward faithful service of the Master. Not because we fear his judgment but because we want Him to find us faithfully walking in step with Him when He does return.
When I was a child there were some words that would change my behavior. If I was misbehaving and my mom was getting frustrated I remember her saying, “thats ok just wait until your daddy gets home!”
Those words were like a sentence of doom.
I would walk straight and tighten up and begin behaving the way I ought to because I knew that my fathers return was assured. While there are many things in this life we cannot be sure of the one thing we can be sure of is the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This knowledge should transform our daily walk with him. So were dealing with the immanent return of JEsus Christ, which could happen at any moment.
He segways into this teaching by saying :
Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.
VIGILANT2 (BE)
γρηγορέω, to wake, keep awake, watch; (lxx. for עמד, Neh. 7:3; שקד, Jer. 1:12; 5:6.)
1 Pet. 5:8.
Jesus gives us a description of what it will be like when he returns for his church, and he says that some will be ready and some wont.
What HE entrusts to us
What HE entrusts to us
“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property.
“Entrust”
paradidomai-
BETRAY (-ED, -EST, -ETH.)
παραδίδωμι, to give or hand over to another (as a torch in a torch race, one’s son to a tutor, a purchase to a buyer, etc.) then to deliver up, surrender; to give a city or person, etc, into another’s hands.
Matt. 10:4.
So iterally what Jesus is saying is that He id going to go away for awile and he is passing the toch on to another group of people “the church” they are to carry out His work here on the Earth until he returns. So Christ gives us some precious torches to carry:
Seeking and saving that which is lost
Preaching the myteries of the gospel
Feeding the poor and the needy
Bringing “healing” to the sick
Life to the dead
He gives to each one of us a different measure of things to steward.
Matthew 25:15
To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.
But what we do with them is up to us, it is our responsibility to steward CHrists property well

ABUNDANT
1. περισσεύω, to remain over and above more than enough.
Listen in the eyes of God we have been given more than enough time in this life to spend it living with Him. We are to be daily awake watching walking faithfully ministering so that we are able to present to the master something of worth.

FIERCE
1. ἀνήμερος, not tame, wild, savage, of persons, a country or plants, (non occ.)

JESUS’ RESPONSE
Matthew 25:26-
But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Why was this man’s reaction different than the other two?
FEAR
“Perfect love casts out all fear”
“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property.
