The Story of Joseph moves from self-centeredness to becoming a servant of God.
The Story of Joseph moves from self-centeredness to becoming a servant of God.
Genesis 37:
He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.”
In what ways are you self-centered or self seeking?
“Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other. “Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.”
Genesis 37:19-
Genesis
The Lord was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.
Genesis 39:
So he left in Joseph’s care everything he had; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.
Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”
How do you deal with temptation?
How does the idea of true covenant keep us from giving in to temptation?
Joseph however is still the Center of his universe
“We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.”
Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”
Genesis 40:
Joseph now is beginning to share the center with God. Sometimes it takes a breaking of our spirit to allow God in.
Joseph is now given the opportunity to interpret Pharaoh’s dream and finds favor with him.
Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”
“I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”
Joseph is now surrendering to God’s will. This is what we refer to as a Kairos moment. The time when God comes crashing into our life with the intent to change us.
Can you think of a Kairos moment where God challenged your thinking?
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.”
Genesis 41:
The Bible tells us this: You are a child of God by the Covenant of Grace. Because you are His child God wants to make you His representative. A representative of the Kingdom with all the Kingdom authority. It is through you that God effects the rule of the Kingdom. But to do this we must be willing to go on the Journey.
