That’s the thing about faith, and being a Christian.
Everything we do has to be done in order to get us closer to God, and to help others get closer to God.
But church, that never happens from the comfortable confines of the bubbles of normal we create!
You don’t get closer to God by do the same thing you always have done!
Think about diets…exercise…we can only get there if we make ourselves struggle and commit to the goals.
If we just kept on doing what we have been doing we would never get there.
And that is our faith!
Listen, none of us has “made it.”
If you think you are comfortable enough in your faith to stop trying to grow, you are fooling yourself!
In life, if you want to get better at anything, then you need to become uncomfortable with what you are doing.
And that starts with us submitting ourselves to God’s will, and doing all those scary things that seem overwhelming and uncomfortable, but that will lead us to God’s change, just like our youth did.
pic of cville
I know I spoke about this briefly last week, but I heard about this in our weekly pastor’s meetup, and had to bring it to you all, especially considering how perfectly it fit today’s message.
[tell story…dwell on the fear they must have had and the assurance they have in Christ…submitting literally and figuratively (kneeling)…move to text..walk-through style]
Eph 3:14-15
Eph 3:16-
[spend time here…develop idea of rooted and established]
Story about daisies and colored water…if we are rooted and established in Christ, His love, His mercy, His Spirit, His Grace will color every part of our lives, and will be evident to everybody who sees us!
They will know that we haven’t been rooted in the world, because we don’t look like the world!
We don’t look like every other daisy, we are colored and stand out!
And when we are rooted and established in Him, we begin to see His power move through us!
[talk about c-ville pastor’s, youth, whoever (whether it’s pastor’s kneeling to pray for a momentary or perceived enemy, or youth branching out of their comfort zones and trying something new…)
WE MUST MAKE OURSELVES COMFORTABLE WITH THE UNCOMFORTABLE IF WE EVER HOPE TO DO GOD’S WORK!
But we have to tap in to Him to do it.
You see, when we tap into Jesus, we begin to see and feel His limitless power.
We become filled to the measure of all fullness in Him!
And when that happens, there is nothing we can’t face and nothing we can’t handle!
[talk about that and then move toward communion.]
[be sure to harken to closing song…because He lives, we can trust our lives to Him and establish our lives in Him…we can become comfortably uncomfortable in Him…and when we do that, our reach into this world is Limitless…and that is what faith is all about.]
[communion is youth handing out both first]
