James 1:22–25 ESV
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

The sad truth is that lots of people want the results but don't want to do any work.
Additionally, we who are committed to a life shaped by the Bible sometimes forget that the church is not the laboratory; here we learn to apply it in the give and take of the real world.

Luke 11:27–28 ESV
27 As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” 28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

It is only in doing the Word that we show we know the Word.
