Mark 5:25–34 ESV
25 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, 26 and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. 27 She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 28 For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” 29 And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. 30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” 31 And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ” 32 And he looked around to see who had done it. 33 But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. 34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

A Faith That Defies Defeat

Me

LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING ABOUT ME!!!
MY STORY OF NOT ABLE TO WALK

We

I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS - WE ALL HAVE OUR STRUGGLES (WE)
ALL OF US AT times had things happened to us that needed a supernatural intervention from God to help us through.
Some of you sitting here probably facing an incurable disease.
If we not sick we all know someone who is very sick and need to be made well.
A financial problem that needs a miracle
Some of you need God to intervene in your husband’s life so that he would have a change of heart.
We all face impossible situations at times but God is a God of the impossible
Today if we don’t trust him for the answer we can find ourself spending lots of money…losing hope,
Some people sorry to say kill themselves when they lose all hope.
The 2 fastest selling drugs in America
This woman in this account could have done that…..
Today I want you to know no matter what you are going through
When trials come don't feel odd but trust in God

God

Let’s turn in our bibles and look at a woman who was facing a very bloody situation that if it is not fixed soon, would lead to her losing her life.

The Woman’s Circumstance

Mark 5:25–26 ESV
25 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, 26 and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse.
Let me give a little background
JESUS WAS NOW HEADING ON HIS WAY TO HEAL A RULER’S DAUGHTER WHO HAD DIED - THE RULER’S NAME WAS JAIRUS
JESUS WAS NOW HEADING ON HIS WAY TO HEAL A RULER’S DAUGHTER WHO HAD DIED - THE RULER’S NAME WAS JAIRUS
ON HIS WAY TO HEAL THE GIRL, HE ENCOUNTERED ANOTHER WOMAN WHO NEEDED HEALING
Let’s examine her circumstances. She is like many in the hospital today seeking for an answer and a cure. She desperately needs help!
Let’s examine her circumstances. She is like many in the hospital today seeking for an answer and a cure. She desperately neede help!

She was diseased

She knew she had a problem. Life was slowly oozing from her. She sought all the answers that the world had to offer. She had tried it all with no satisfaction. No physician could help her. No hope was offered by the religious leaders. She was incurable by man’s standards.
We are told that she "suffered" under their care.
IS LIKE US we try the medical center but they only offer drips
Going San Fernando General ; but yuh car even get a bed much ;less a doctor to see you
Finally go Mt. Hope but they really hopeless
MY DOCTOR...
Let me tell you about my doctor. He's very good! If you tell him you want a second opinion, He'll go out and come in again.
~~~
He treated one woman for yellow jaundice for three years before he realized she was Chinese.
~~~

She was distanced

Another time, he gave a patient six months to live. At the end of the six months, the patient hadn't paid his bill, So, the doctor gave him another six months.
~~~
While he was talking to me, his nurse came in and said, "Doctor, there is a man here who thinks he's invisible." The doctor said, "Tell him I can't see him."
~~~
Another time, a man came running in the office and yelled, "Doctor, doctor! - my son just swallowed a roll of film!" The doctor calmly replied, "Let's just wait and see what develops."
~~~
One patient came in and said, "Doctor, I have a serious memory problem." The doctor asked,"When did it start?" The man replied, "When did what start?"
~~~
I remember one time I told my doctor I had a ringing in my ears. His advice: "Don't answer it."
~~~
My doctor sure has his share of nut cases. One said to him, "Doctor, I think I'm a bell." The doctor gave him some pills and said, "Here, take these - If they don't work, give me a ring."
~~~
Another guy told the doctor that he thought he was a deck of cards. The doctor simply said, "Go sit over there. I'll deal with you later."
~~~
When I told my doctor I broke my leg in two places, He told me to stop going to those places.
~~~
You know, doctors can be so frustrating. You wait a month and a half for an appointment, then he says, "I wish you had come to me sooner

She was distanced

She was an outcast. Because of her blood issue, according to and 25, she was alienated from her family and community. There was to be no contact with those who were clean. She would defile them by simply touching them.
when i had chicken pox

She was destitute

Because she had spent all in seeking a cure, we now find her broke, penniless and living in poverty. She had nothing to offer. It is only when we have nothing to offer that we find that…
some of these doctors live up to their title Doc - they are a bunch of quacks

She was desperate

Now that she was without hope, she sought the only One who could heal her. It had become a matter of faith. It would be faith in the Rabbi from Nazareth. He was the one many called the Messiah. Perhaps He could heal her.
Every man has a blood disease that is fatal… it’s called sin. When the health of a loved one fails or we find our own life slipping away, we will try all methods for a cure. Desperate means require desperate measures. In our desperation we must turn to Jesus! Often, it is only when we are desperate that we will seek Him!
We will search desperately for something that is valuable to us. Whether it’s a set of keys, a lost bill or an answer for a cure, we will seek when we need an answer.
MY INTERNET ILLUSTRATION
Many times we can feel like this woman
It is hopeless
Woe be unto me
years I have been trying to be healed
God has given up on me, the world has given up on me, society has given up on me
That is a lie straight from the pit of hell
If God had given up on you you would be a dead person
A person who has been brought to the point of helplessness and hopelessness can be helped. When there is no hope anywhere else, there is hope in Christ. Preacher's Outline and Sermon Bible - Commentary - The Preacher's Outline & Sermon Bible – Mark.

The Woman’s Cure

Secondly let’s look at the woman cure
Mark 5:27–30 ESV
27 She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 28 For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” 29 And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. 30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?”
We find in this passage there was hope! His name is Jesus!
This woman had heard of Jesus somewhere. I wonder who told her?
Today you might be sitting here and thinking why this big deal about Jesus….
Everyone seems to talk about him all the time
If everyone is talking about someone curiosity will get the better of you I am sure

She touched Jesus

states that she touched Him! In a crowd of people stirring around Him, she was able to touch His garments.
“To act on what one hears about Jesus is always in Mark the sign of a disciple, and this the woman does.”
She demonstrated great courage by approaching Jesus in that crowd. As she elbowed her way through the people, she was causing ceremonial defilement for everyone she touched. She was taking a great risk ,for if she had been recognized, she would have been subjected to public humiliation and ridicule and possible retribution. A crowd like that might have gotten worked up and stoned her to death. For her, it was a risk worth taking. She knew what Jesus would do for her if she could just get to Him!

When she was near enough to Him, she reached out a trembling hand and touched His garment. The word "touched" means "to cling to or to adhere to". In other words, she held onto Him until she got what she came after! Then, immediately, she received what none of the doctors or their costly and painful remedies could give her; she experienced healing! Instantly, she felt the change in her body. She knew things would be different from there on out.

She trusted Jesus

Because she placed her faith in Him there was an instant cure. He has the transforming power to change our lives.

She troubled Jesus

When she touched Him, Jesus asked, “Who touched me?” The disciples were incredulous! They couldn’t believe Jesus would ask that! Why, there were hundreds of people surrounding Him and touching Him. But there was only one who was desperate!
Jesus is the object of our faith. Not His clothes, the tassels, the cross, or the grave. They simply reveal who He is...the Great I Am. He cures because He is the rightful Creator of His creation. From the lowest to the highest, the richest to the poorest, and the oldest to the youngest... Jesus still saves.

APPLICATION

Tonight I want you to know that no matter what sickness you may be experiencing, no matter what the doctor may be telling you - you can be healed by Jesus because he is the great physician.
Just as this woman was healed so you can be healed as well.
Don’t look at the crowd around you, don’t look at the circumstances that have found you but look to Jesus who loves you and is more than able to heal you from your sickness and disease!!!
Why is it we think to receive from the Lord we have to impress Him with long prayers, lengthy fasts, or great discipline? If I can break through the crowd of my unbelief, apathy, and despair, and touch even the hem of His garment, I know I’ll be helped in my difficulty.
I believe in the sun even when it is not shining. I believe in love even when feeling it not. I believe in God even when he is silent. —Inscription on a cellar wall in Germany where Jews hid from Nazis, "Reflections," Christianity Today, Vol. 44, no. 10. The Woman’s Confession

Mark 5:30–34 ESV
30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” 31 And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ” 32 And he looked around to see who had done it. 33 But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. 34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”
Mark 5:30-34
Caught by His gaze for the one healed, she confesses her need and faith in Him.
Caught by His gaze for the one healed, she confesses her need and faith in Him.
SHE CAME TREMBLING CAUSE SHE KNEW SHE WAS CONSIDERED UNCLEAN,
SHE WAS WORRIED WHAT JESUS WOULD HAVE SAID TO HER OR WHAT THE CROWD WOULD HAVE SAID TO HER
“He is not content to dispatch a miracle; he wants to encounter a person. In the kingdom of God, miracle leads to meeting. Discipleship is not simply getting our needs met; it is being in the presence of Jesus, being known by him, and following him”
Excerpt From: Edwards Jr., James R. “The Gospel according to Mark (Pillar New Testament Commentary).” iBooks.
There is no shame in telling people you need Jesus.
People should get fed up of you crying out to Jesus.
We know that Jesus is all we need.

His requirement

Jesus could have continued on to the little girls home. But Jesus requires a public profession from us.
THE ARMY OF THE LORD
A friend was in front of me coming out of church one day, and the preacher was standing at the door shaking hands with the people as they were leaving. He grabbed my friend by the hand and pulled him aside. The preacher said to him, "Brother, you need to join the Army of the Lord!"
My friend replied, "I'm already in the Army of the Lord, preacher."
It is not enough to be a secret agent believer. We must proclaim Him.
The preacher looked puzzled and asked, "How come I don't see you in church except at Christmas and Easter?"
My friend whispered back, "I'm in the secret service."
It is not enough to be a secret agent believer. We must proclaim Him.

His relationship

It took a powerful faith to seek him. She simply trusted and was given a new identity. She was now a sister in Christ.
BUT JESUS LOOKS AT HER AND CALLS HER DAUGHTER!!!! THAT MUST HAVE SHOCKED HER!!! DAUGHTER????
REMEMBER OVER 12 YEARS NOW EVERYONE HAD DESPISED HER FOR HER ISSSUE SHE HAD AND HERE WAS THE SON OF GOD CALLING HER DAUGHTER!!!
SHE HAD BELIEVED IN HIM!! SHE WAS A DAUGHTER OF THE KING!!!
HE SAID DAUGHTER YOUR FAITH HAS MADE YOU WELL - GO IN PEACE!!!!!
JESUS WANTED HER TO TESTIFY ABOUT HIM- JESUS WANTED HER TO TELL WHAT HE HAD DONE

His reward

His reward was a permanent cure. She would no longer be alienated from her family, friends or future! She was free to serve the One who had healed her.
But her confession was also an encouragement to Jairus, who would soon hear that his daughter had died. (Perhaps he wanted to blame the woman for the delay!) The woman’s twelve years of trial were ended, and the same Christ who helped her would help Jairus.
WHEN GOD TOUCH YOUR LIFE HE WANTS YOU TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT WHAT HE HAS DONE

We may not have strong faith, but we do have a strong Saviour, and He responds even to a touch at the hem of His garment.7
Don’t put your faith on strong faith. Put your faith on a strong Savior.
When trials come don't feel odd but trust in God

You

Tonight as you heard this message would you be willing to say I want to give this Jesus a chance.
I want to try what he has to offer to me.
for those of you who have been miserable in the last twelve years or months or weeks, good news—you don’t know what tomorrow holds.
You don’t know what miracle is about to happen. I promise you, the Lord will enter your situation in a way that will blow your mind if, like this woman, you seize the opportunity to draw near to Him.
We need to be in the place where we know the Lord is traveling.
Where is that? He promises to be in the midst of His people
(). He promises to be heard in the Word (). He promises to be responsive to prayer ().
This woman heard where He was and said, “I’ve got to get to the place where Jesus is moving and see what will happen.”
As a result, she will be healed miraculously and studied throughout history because she had the wisdom to expend the energy and break through the crowds to touch Him even in her weakened state
What is your need right now?
Will you come to Jesus with it?
Whatever it is come to Him.
Understand this. When you bring it before Him, God has His will and God has His timing.
If He says wait, it is because He is looking out for you. He has something perhaps far better in mind than what you have planned for yourself.
Don’t run ahead of the Lord. Don’t be presumptuous. Don’t falsely accuse Him.

We

Imagine what it would like if we all brought our needs to Jesus.
How much ease it will put on our minds and our pockets if we just trusted in him for our healing.
Imagine if we spent more time praying and less time worrying
How much of a difference it would make in our lives

Conclusion

Our world is filled with people like this sick woman. They may have their physical afflictions, but their real disease is a disease of the soul and of the heart. All they need for their healing is to get to Jesus. If you will come to Him today, He will heal the problem in your soul and He will give you a new life in Him. Friend, I don't know where you are in your journey, but I do know that the path of grace has brought you to a crossroads today. I plead with you to do as this woman did. Let nothing hinder you from coming to Jesus for your soul's salvation right now!
Trust Him when dark doubts assail thee,
Trust Him when thy strength is small,
Trust Him when to simply trust Him
Seems the hardest thing of all.
Trust Him, He is ever faithful,
Trust Him, for his will is best,
Trust Him, for the heart of Jesus
Is the only place of rest.
