Err on the side of the Gospel
Err on the side of the Gospel
2 Cor 4:1-2
1 Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart.
2 But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.
What are some current disgraceful and underhanded ways in our society?
Most recently...
Hate, bigotry, prejudices, violence
Hate for others with differing view
Bigotry and prejudice against of different skin color
Violence against others, including the shooting of police officers.
5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Cor 4:
The only position a follower of Christ can take on any issue is the one that errs on the side of the Gospel.
To err on the side of caution is to be especially careful rather than taking a risk or making a mistake.
I will not speak on the issue of statues and monuments from the platform but I will speak about the gospel and how Christians must view everything through the lens of the gospel and the eyes of Jesus Christ. We must denounce all hatred and rise up against racial bigotry and embrace all men and women for they were created in the image of God.
There will be distractions, I have struggles with this issue, not the white supremacy issue, that’s evil and comes from the pit of hell. But I can get distracted with the issues dealing with our rights to freedom of speech. I can get sucked in really fast, I have an opinion, believe me but its a set up from Satan. Paul refers to the freedom we have in Christ, since we no longer are under the law.
12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.

23 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up.
1 Cor 10:23
Just bc you have the freedom to do something you must ask yourself the following questions, and these apply to your walk with Jesus and they can also apply to your position as a member of the human race.
1) Is it helpful?
1) Is it helpful?
2) Does this act or thought dominate you?
2) Does this act or thought dominate you?
3) Does it build up others or put them down?
3) Does it build up others or put them down?
I can focus on the constitutional issues and forget all about the Gospel. Am I citizen of Heaven first? Yes, according to the Apostle Paul in
20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Don’t be distracted. Paul alludes to the struggle in following Jesus
11 For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
12 So death is at work in us, but life in you.
2 Cor 4:
The apostles and teachers were sacrificing their physical bodies for the sake of the Gospel in the first generation church.
How dare we think that we can live as a second class citizen in heaven and take a luke warm approach to our faith and expect God to bless us and work on our behalf. He must be first! Our identity must be founded on the message of the Gospel and not the country we live in. I love this country, I do not want to live in any where else unless He calls me to but I am first a citizen of Heaven, a follower of Jesus.
Romans 12:9-21
16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.
10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.
12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Although we face ridicule our spirits will be renewed daily.
The conflicts we face today are only temporary and is preparation for eternal glory.
We fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

“you are the ones who are out of step with our society, you are the ones who willfully violate the meaning of the dream of America...” Ronald Reagan
As one of the pastors of this fellowship I will always stand against hatred of any form and I hope you stand with us as we continue to spread the Gospel and the love of Christ.
