Last Sunday we talked about Outstanding Love
Never Stops Being Patient
Never Stops Believing
Never Stops Hoping
Never Gives Up
And the Sunday previous to that, we talked about Love that Lets Go
We were taught by the Bible how to Respond to:
Difficult People
Demanding People
Disappointing People
Destructive People
Today the Lord wants us to take a closer look on
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
rude.
Love isn’t selfish
or quick tempered.
It doesn’t keep a record
of wrongs that others do.
Particularly on “not being easily angered”
If we can love our family, we can love others, because it’s easier to love people from a distance, will you agree?
In some other translation of the Bible the word used was “Irritable”, “quick tempered”, “touchy”
The Greek word for “Anger” and for all those other words is “paroxynō” (pronounce as: pa-rok-sino)
Because, Anger is the most misunderstood and misapplied human emotions
It is generally perceived to be the opposite of love, which is not (Love vs. Hate)
As a matter of fact the Bible said, being angry is not always a sin
If you become angry, do not let your anger lead you into sin, and do not stay angry all day.
Anger is Controllable, will you agree?
You were burning mad at your husband, you were yelling at him, then all of a sudden, somebody was at the door and you opened it and said, Hiiiiii!..... or the phone rang, and you say… Hellllooooowwww…
How Do You Tame Your Temper?
To tame our temper, we must:
Manage My Anger
Manage My Anger
Anger is a Choice
Nobody can make you angry “without” your permission
Foolish people lose their tempers, but wise people control theirs.
Anger is highly controllable
Anger is a Choice
Nobody can make you angry “without” your permission
To manage in “advance” and not in the heat of the moment
Mind the Cost of Anger
Mind the Cost of Anger
People with quick tempers cause a lot of quarrelling and trouble.
Proverbs 29:22
Look the price tag of anger
Anger causes mistakes
When you’re angry, you loose 50% of your I.Q.
Write this down: “I always lose when I lose my temper”
Lose my reputation, job, health, love, your family, your career
Number 1 cause of anger is “alcohol”
People do things they don’t usually do when they are drunk
Wine produces mockers; alcohol leads to brawls. Those led astray by drink cannot be wise.
My story when I lose my temper and I went to my political rivals house after my very delayed proclamation of my congressional electoral victory.
My Story when I shot all the street lights in our village.
We often show anger to get people’s attention to do something for us (it works in short term)
But in the long term they become “apathetic”
They will alienate you
The fastest way to destroy a relationship, is to be angry
Nothing destroys relationship faster than anger
Meditate before you Open your Mouth
Meditate before you Open your Mouth
Proverbs 15:18
Hot tempers cause arguments, but patience brings peace.
That’s how you biblically say, “chill out!”
If you haven’t notice, look at your mind, it’s over your mouth
God purposely placed our mind over our mouth
Put your mind in gear before you put your mouth in gear
Talk low and slow will make you calmer
When you get angry, count to 10… if you are very angry, count to a 100… if you are super angry, count to 1,000
Delay is a great remedy to anger. But not more than a day.. Ephesians 4:26
Technology these days gives us a lot of convenience. It gives us ease in doing things. My iWatch for example, watches before only gave us time, and some later models will give us day and date. But now, it gives us a lot of information. It gives us information about the weather, calendar, time in your home country. Not just that, it allows me to make phones calls and send messages. Plus now, with this 2nd generation, it counts my number of steps everyday, my sitting down and standing up, it counts my strokes when I swim, it counts my heart rate and many more. I wonder if the 3rd generation iWatch will be able to count the number of words we say everyday, wouldn’t it be nice?
Do you know that average male speaks 7, 000 per day
While an average female speaks 20,000 words per day
So, do not be surprised anymore when the ladies always had the final say on things
To understand anger better we must meditate on these 3 questions:
Why am I angry?
What do I really want?
How can I get it?
We must also meditate on these 3 causes of anger:
Hurt (physical or emotional) - When you hurt yourself with a saw. When you were taken advantaged by your boyfriend/girlfriend
Frustration - When you are made to wait. When things get out of your control. By the way, most of the things in your life is out of your control. Health, marriage, death.
Fear - When you are threatened, insecure, attacked, afraid.
We need to listen to the reasons behind our anger
Master the Art of Releasing your Anger Properly
Master the Art of Releasing your Anger Properly
Be angry without sinning. Don’t go to bed angry.
And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry,
Anger is not always a sin, but you must master the art of releasing your anger properly
God gets angry too. In ESV, the phrase “wrath of God” was used 11 times
God is angry when drug addicts rapes a 3-month old baby
We have to decompress
We have to empty our buckets before it grows to barrels
A few times going up to Baguio City from Manila, we passed through a restaurant in the Province or Tarlac. At this restaurant, they have a way of letting their customers release their anger. For a certain amount, they will let you throw their plates against their walls. You can throw as many plates as you want depending on the amount of anger in you.
How do you Release your Anger Properly?
Don’t Suppress you anger - It will explode like a can of coke
Don’t Repress your anger - Denying, pretending that you are not mad will lead to depression
Don’t Express your anger - When you just express your anger, you tend to get more sarcasm
But instead, Confess your anger - Admit the cause behind your anger. I’m hurt, frustrated, insecure, I’m scared
Manage Your Mind
Manage Your Mind
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
You did not learn the way you express your anger overnight
You have seen it from someone else, you adopted to it
The great news is, you can “unlearn” it
Stop the insanity and break the chain
Anger is contagious
Stay away from angry people
Let the Lord change the way how you think
Prayer
