The life of David
We are going to look at the life of David since he wrote so much about magnifying & glorifying God
What type of life did David have?
First, let’s look at David’s life:
He grew up as the youngest boy and was valued little by his father
When the prophet Nathan came to anoint the next king, his father didn’t think that it was worth having David included
He was given the task of herding sheep
He needed to wait on God because he was anointed as king but it was many years before he was given the authority of king
Saul tried to kill him 21 times
While he was running from Saul, David and his men of war had all their wives and children taken and their city was burned with fire -
His men threatened to kill him -how did David respond?

He encouraged himself in the Lord -he reminded himself of who God is
He asked the Lord for direction

He committed adultery, had her husband killed
His child dies
He numbers Israel and as a result thousands die
Absolom kills Amnon (both David’s sons)
Absolom tries to usurp David as king and as a result, gets killed
Later, Adonijah, another of David’s sons, also tries to take become king
He suffered a disease
Yet he still lived to at least 70 & maintained his faith and trust in the Lord
How did David encourage himself?

David believed in the mercy of God
He humbled himself and asked God for mercy

How does a magnifying glass work?
We use it to make things larger, to bring a clearer picture

How did Jesus magnify the Father?
He was totally focused on the Father and did whatever he saw the Father do
He was the express (very) image of God
Jesus said, whoever has seen me has seen the Father

Our life, our passion magnifies whatever it is that has our focus.
