What is Revival?

Pastor Keith Hassell

I.             What is Revival?

A.               Before we can answer the question of what is revival, it is important to distinguish between the need for revival, revival, the fruit of revival, and the blessings of revival. Revival involves the dealings of God and our response toward His dealings.

B.                2 Chronicles 7:12-14 outlines the need, conditions, fruit, and blessings of revival:  “Then the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. 13When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

II.          The Need for Revival

A.               Curse on the seed:  “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain”

B.                Curse on the fruit:  When I “command the locusts to devour the land”

C.               Curse on God’s people:  When I “send pestilence among My people”

III.      Revival

A.               God beckons His people back “If My people”

B.                God’s people respond to Him

1.          They humble themselves

2.          They begin to pray again

3.          They begin to seek His face again

4.          They turn from their wicked ways (Repentance)

IV.       The blessings of revival

A.               God hears (He sends His rain)

B.                God forgives (The devourer is rebuked)

C.               God heals (God’s people are healed)

V.          The fruit of revival

A.               Kingdom sowing and reaping is restored

B.                Winning souls

C.               Making disciples
