Have unity of mind
Of the same faith practicing the same duties of religion
One mind in the great points of faith
The best way to EXPRESS it is to CONFESS it. 1689 2LBC.
Matthew Henry says “be unanimous in the belief of the same faith, and the practice of the same duties of religion.”
Sympathetic
John Calvin puts it this way “For though friends are at liberty to think differently, yet to do so is a cloud which obscures love; yea, from this seed easily arises hatred.”
Have Sympathy
When differences happen sympathize
Have brotherly love
Have compassion
Be humble
Q: If we are all to be like-minded why do we need to be told to have sympathy, love, compassion and humility toward one another?
Do not repay evil for evil
Do not repay evil for evil
A: Because we can’t all be like-minded all of the time.
Do not repay insult for insult
Q: How can we pursue this type of brother-love relationship?
Give a blessing
A: By keeping the moral law of God as our standard.

Verse 9
- “Do not repay”
- Why repay a $20 loan? Because they lender deserves it.
- Peter is saying that the person deserves to be repaid with evil or with insult
- BUT we should not give them what they deserve
