· 242 viewsThere are 24 hours in a day. That is 1440 minutes and 86,400 seconds that we can invest. Imagine if we invested our entire day in following Jesus. What would that look like? How would our lives be different? In this three- part series, DAY, Lead Pastor Mark Hunnicutt will build a biblical case for dedicating three parts of your DAY to Jesus in order to move into a more dynamic relationship with Him.

Best Day Ever
Best Day Ever
Intro/Me: – I’m loving this series. This is one of the most practical studies I’ve ever done. What does my day suppose to look like? I have 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86,400 seconds in a day. How do I make every day my best day ever? How do I make my day count?
I’m a Christ follower. To follow Christ I understand that I’m to step with him every second, min, hour, day.
My destiny and desire is to become like Jesus and the more I compete with that the more miserable I become and the more drama is in my life. The more I complement that process the more fulfilled and the more peace that I have and devotion is in my life.
So my day as a Christian is designed to look up not in. My BEST DAY EVER will be an upward stare not a downward spiral. I want to look at three segments of our day.
Wake Up
Work Up
Wrap Up
We: When I talk about time it usually does not get a positive response.
Ill: If I were to give you a basket and ask you to pack it with stuff that represent your daily schedule…each one that corresponds to the things you have given your day to that day: Keys, To Do List, Calendar, Cell Phone, Facebook, Internet, Video Games, Projects, Work, School, Family, Makeup… And the list goes on…
I think everyone’s basket would be full. Different stuff but still full… Problem, to add something else to our schedule we need to take something away. We need to evaluate what is in our day and just how important time with God is when we wake up.
God: This is not a new problem. The Bible shows us the life of Jesus the one we are suppose to be following.
2 questions…
Was Jesus’ Day Packed?
That evening after sunset, many sick and demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. The whole town gathered at the door to watch. So Jesus healed many people who were sick with various diseases, and he cast out many demons. But because the demons knew who he was, he did not allow them to speak.
after sunset
Ex: Jesus had pressure from every side. He had people pressing him and pressuring him at every angle. He was everyone’s solution and some people’s problems.
What Did Jesus Do To Prepare For A Packed Day?
Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.
Jesus got with God before He got with others.
Ill – Sunrise Picture
Getting up is probably on your “top ten” list of thing you do. There seems to be two attitudes towards morning. Good morning Lord or Good Lord it is morning.
These two attitudes are displayed in the Bible by two Kings…
A loud and cheerful greeting early in the morning
will be taken as a curse!
Psalms
Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning,
for I am trusting you.
Show me where to walk,
for I give myself to you.
Trans: We should start our BEST DAY EVER with God. We can do this by being proactive and by taking three actions.
Jesus Got With God Before He Got With Others
Jesus Got With God Before He Got With Others
Jesus had a quiet time! He got alone with God first thing in the morning before He got with others.
I want to unpack those verses in the book of Mark and use the parts to build a practical start to your hour day. We need to be proactive. 3 actions…
1. Overcome The Battle Of The Bed
Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.
Ex: Jesus got up! He took the initiative. His mama didn’t wake him up, his disciples didn’t wake him up. He got up with the intent to spend time with God before getting with others.
35 Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up…
Ex: Jesus got up! He took the initiative. His mama didn’t wake him up, his disciples didn’t wake him up. He got up with the intent to spend time with God before getting with others.
Arg: What time? It doesn’t say. The spiritual principle is revealed. Before coming in contact with your tasks and people you need to get with God.
None of this happens if you don’t get up!
Arg: Mark, I’m not getting up!
Ill - Football Season - The Christian Calendar has many holy days. Lent, Advent… and football season. Can I get a Amen? You do realize that your favorite team scheduled the season before the season, right? You do comprehend that they intentionally prepared for their opponent, right?
They will not wait until after the first game to start workouts. They don’t do warm-ups after kickoff. They go into the season with intent!
Arg: Morning? – Your struggling with this aren’t you? You need to win the battle of the blankets. If I mention spiritual warfare what do you think about? Depression, frustration, discouragement, gossip etc…
Does a sheet come to mind? One of Satan’s greatest weapons is a sheet! 56sq feet of cotton! I wouldn’t stop a bullet but it has stopped me and many men from becoming all that God wants me to become.
Ill – Speaking of sheets. I heard a story about a nurse starting her first day. She was changing the hospital room out on the third floor. It was a beautiful spring day and the windows were open.
She picked up the bedpan and dropped it right on the bed. She was embarrassed and didn’t know what to do. Her manger was coming to inspect her work so she wadded the sheets up and threw them out the window.
What she didn’t know was that there was a bum in the alley below stumbling around in the shadows after a long night. The sheets fell right on top of him. This startle him and he started to flay and fight with the dirty, stinky sheets. About the time he got them off if rounded the corner. He bumps into a cop standing on the same corner. He is standing there in the daylight exhausted, smelly and the cop asks, “what happened to you, why are you exhausted and why do you stink?”
I’m not sure but I just beat up a ghost.
App: We are not talking about a game or a ghost we are talking about your life. Winning this battle will equip you to win the war! It is amazing how I stumble through life and how my life stinks if I don’t get with God before I get with others.

2. Understand The Bandwidth Of The Brain
Ex. had a psychology professor that was from Tanzania. He called it the “bruan.” To get up and get with others before we get with God we need to understand the “bruan.”
When you sleep your brain goes through different stages. During the first 15 or 20 minutes of your day have you ever noticed you’re not fully awake. Your body is coming out of the alpha state and is transitioning to the beta state.
In the alpha state your brain waves slow down and it is when you are at the highest level of learning receptivity. Like a dry sponge.
Studies show that in this alpha state you can almost double your learning rate because your brain rate and physical cycles are slowed.
Many people not understanding this first thing in the morning and go to the internet or turn on the TV to listen to all the terrible news that happened over night. Or they think there is no way I can get this done today!
35 And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. 36 And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, 37 and they found him and said to him, “Everyone is looking for you.” 38 And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.”
35 Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray. 36 Later Simon and the others went out to find him. 37 When they found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
There are no details but from context Jesus was getting direction. He had a huge interruption but it didn’t cloud his thinking because he had been in isolation. Can you imagine Jesus hitting the snooze button and the disciples shaking Jesus saying, “come one we’ve got to go.”

Ill – (show Time Mag ppt) Let me give you a personal illustration. I got up and got with God. Before any other media hit my mind I saturated my sponge with worship and the Word. I talked to God and listened. I filled my sponge with his Word and what He says about me. I walked through my values and priorities setting up my day following God.
I praised God for what he did that past weekend. He changed lives! 850! Salvation!
As my day transitioned from the Alpha state to the Beta state. I encountered the “others.” One encounter was with this magazine article in Newsweek. “The Decline and Fall of Christianity in America.”
Wow I didn’t know that. That negative information didn’t soak in because my sponge was full. My spirit was set in the right direction.
The reverse of that would have been. The alarm doing off at the last possible minute. Jumping up in a panic and feeling my head with media. Christianity is declining! Oh, no what I’m I going to do? I’m going to be out of a job!

3. Apply The Benefit Of Prep
For us to have the BEST DAY EVER we need to prepare. There was a pattern in Jesus life of retreating early in the morning to get with God before he got with others.
It is not about a time it is about a principle and preparation. 3 prep questions?
1. What time will you encounter the “others?”
2. How long does it take you to get ready for that encounter?
3. Is there anything you can do the night before that will give you more time?
3. What time do you need to get up and be in isolation before those encounters?
App: Example formula for setting your alarm clock.
8am: First Encounter With Others
- 11/2hrs of prep time.
- 30min of isolated time with God. = Clock Set

Conclusion:
It is not a question of whether Jesus DAY was packed. It was! It is not a question whether your DAY is packed. It is!
The concluding question is, are you going to get with God before you get with others?
Listen to David’s testimony…
It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,
your faithfulness in the evening,
Psalms 92:2
As I look back over my 24’s my I can amen this verse. The rhythm of my day is set early. The day’s that I get with God before getting with others were days that I could evaluate the evening and testify to His faithfulness.

The days I don’t I tend to look at my unfaithfulness.
The pace and panic of my BEST DAY EVER is set by how I treat isolating myself with just me and Jesus.
3 Actions For Your Best Day Ever
Overcome The Battle Of The Bed
Understand The Bandwidth Of The Brain
Apply The Benefit Of Prep
I want to challenge you in the rhythm of your life. If you are one of those people that currently not overcoming the rhythm of 24 > get going > get up > get ready.
I want you to intentionally reverse the rhythm. 24 > get ready > get up > get going.
Imagine the rhythm of our life both ways. One leads to a devotion and a faithful BEST DAY EVER and the other leads to an drama and an unfaithful BEST DAY EVER.
When you set your alarm tonight you are making a spiritual choice and fighting a spiritual battle. Post a picture of the time you are getting up and #BCCBestDayEver
Next Move Prayer: Will you commit to a NEXT MOVE today. I desire to see you move into a more dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.
First Move Prayer: For some of you your NEXT MOVE into a more dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ will be a FIRST MOVE. If you’ve never asked Jesus to be the forgiver of your sins and the leader of your life I want to give you that opportunity today. Sinner’s prayer. Repeat.
Would you lift your hand right now and say, “I asked Jesus to be the forgiver of my sins and the leader of my life.”
Let’s celebrate these NEXT MOVES and these FIRST MOVES.
