The Bible is God’s Word

“Many believers would be hard pressed to articulate or defend any the the core beliefs about the bible and the basics of their faith”

The starting place of Christian growth is to have a firm conviction about the accuracy and authority of the Bible.

Today I want to give you this assurance.

You can not make progress without it

Many if not most people today believe the bible is just a old book written by man.

Today i want to get you evidence that refutes that.

Ask your friend “ what detailed research have you done to come up with that conclusion”

Not based on feeling.

Why is this subject so important:

Salvation depends on it

Assurance depends on it

Spiritual growth depends on it

Power to witness depends on it.

I The Bible Claims to be God’s Word

Yes the bible declares itself to be God’s Word

Right out of the gate: if its not the then the scriptures are lying

Even a casual reader of the Bible will soon discover he is reading a very unusual book.

Even though he may not accept its claims, a careful and reflective reading will demonstrate, for most at least, that this book is not only unique, but makes some very unique claims.

The following are a number of evidences that support this uniqueness.

Some thirty-eight hundred times the Bible declares, “God said,” or “Thus says the Lord” (e.g. ; ; ; ; ; ; , ; ; ; etc.).

The writers who made those claims for the Scripture were trustworthy men who defended the integrity of the Scripture at great personal sacrifice.

Jeremiah received his message directly from the Lord (), yet because of his defense of the Scripture some attempted to kill him (); even his family rejected him ().

II Internal Evidences and External Evidence-

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reads as one book.

And there is incredible unity to the Bible.

The Bible is one book, and yet it is made up of 66 books, was written by at least 40 different authors over a period of about 1600 years, in 13 different countries and on three different continents.

It was written in at least three different languages by people in all professions.

The Bible forms one beautiful temple of truth that does not contradict itself theologically, morally, ethically, doctrinally, scientifically, historically, or in any other way.

Prophecies - Approximately 2,500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, about 2,000 of which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors

Since the prophecies are for the most part independent of one another, the odds for all these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance without error is less than one in 102000 (that is 1 with 2,000 zeros written after it)!

Another of the internal evidences that indicates the Bible is truly God’s Word is the prophecies contained within its pages.

The Bible contains hundreds of detailed prophecies relating to the future of individual nations including Israel, certain cities, and mankind.

Other prophecies concern the coming of One who would be the Messiah, the Savior of all who would believe in Him.

Unlike the prophecies found in other religious books or those by men such as Nostradamus, biblical prophecies are extremely detailed.

There are over three hundred prophecies concerning Jesus Christ in the Old Testament.

Not only was it foretold where He would be born and His lineage, but also how He would die and that He would rise again.

There simply is no logical way to explain the fulfilled prophecies in the Bible other than by divine origin.

There is no other religious book with the extent or type of predictive prophecy that the Bible contains.

III External Evidences

Historical Accuracy

Much of the Bible, in particular the historical books of the old testament, are as accurate historical documents as any that we have from antiquity and are in fact more accurate than many of the Egyptian, Mesopotamian, or Greek histories.

These Biblical records can be and are used as are other ancient documents in archeological work.

For the most part, historical events described took place and the peoples cited really existed

There are also external evidences that indicate the Bible is truly the Word of God.

One is the historicity of the Bible.

Because the Bible details historical events, its truthfulness and accuracy are subject to verification like any other historical document.

Through both archaeological evidences and other writings, the historical accounts of the Bible have been proven time and time again to be accurate and true.

In fact, all the archaeological and manuscript evidence supporting the Bible makes it the best-documented book from the ancient world.

The fact that the Bible accurately and truthfully records historically verifiable events is a great indication of its truthfulness when dealing with religious subjects and doctrines and helps substantiate its claim to be the very Word of God.

In studying the lives of these men, we find them to be honest and sincere.

The fact that they were willing to die often excruciating deaths for what they believed testifies that these ordinary yet honest men truly believed God had spoken to them.

A final external evidence that the Bible is truly God’s Word is the indestructibility of the Bible.

Because of its importance and its claim to be the very Word of God, the Bible has suffered more vicious attacks and attempts to destroy it than any other book in history.

From early Roman Emperors like Diocletian, through communist dictators and on to modern-day atheists and agnostics, the Bible has withstood and outlasted all of its attackers and is still today the most widely published book in the world.

IV Changed Lives
