A. Betrothal is the very marriage contract

B. God presents the marriage contract to Israel

1. “If you will obey My voice”

2. “If you will keep My covenant”

C. God presents the covenant blessings to Israel

1. “You shall be a special treasure to Me above all people”

2. “You shall be a kingdom of priests to Me”

3. “You shall be to Me a holy nation”

4. 1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”

D. The Bride consents to the covenant

1. “All that the Lord has spoken we will do”

2. Decision to make Christ Lord of our life

III. The Day of Betrothal Arrives

A. God announces He is coming to His people

B. God commands that His people prepare for His coming

1. Consecrate themselves (set aside unto the Lord)

2. Wash their clothes (repentance, confession, cleanse sins of the flesh)

C. God gives Israel the covenant

D. God gives Israel His angel to go before them (chapter 23)

1. Dowry and guide to bring them into the land

E. In Christ

1. Passover: Salvation

2. Red Sea: Baptism

3. Pentecost: Betrothal and Dowry (Holy Spirit)

4. Dry Season: Days of separation and preparation

5. Trumpets: Second Coming

6. Day of Atonement: Judgment and Reward

7. Tabernacles: Wedding Feast
