Fasting for a Change
Fasting for a Change
Fasting has been around forever
The definition of fasting is:
Abstaining from food
Food is one of our basic daily necessities. “Give us today our daily bread”
The literal translation of the word “fasting” in the original text is :
“ one who has not eaten, one who is empty”
Why do we fast?
Because we are in need of something!
What is your need today? Family, friends, work, finances, health, emotional, spiritual.
Through out the bible people fasted.
Ezra fasted for his nation to repent and turn back to the Lord, and they rebuilt the temple
Nehemiah fasted when he received bad news about his homeland while in another kingdom, and God showed favor to him and he rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem
Esther fasted when the lives of her people where in danger and God delivered!
David, Isaiah, Jeremiah all fasted many a times
Daniel fasted to seek the Lord and receive an answer from God
Daniel’s King fasted and prayed that Daniels life would be spared in the den on lions , and Daniel’s life was spared!
The prophet Joel call the nation of Israel to fast and turn back to God!
Jesus fasted for 40 days before beginning His ministry, He also was tempted but did not sin. After that time He was ministered to by angels.
Anna had her prayers answered as she waited and fasted to see the messiah.
The centurion Cornelius Fasted and prayed and an angel appeared to him to send for Peter, shortly after Cornelius and His household were saved and baptized in the Holy Spirit
The primitive church prayed and fasted, and many were added to their numbers
The apostles fasted many times and they saw great signs and wonders.
If we are sincere in our fasting then fasting works!
It is a way to set ourselves aside, becoming empty to listen and learn from God!
You have not because you ask not!
Fasting is one of the most real ways to seek God. because it hurts to empty ourselves.
The majority of fasts in the bible didn’t only include not eating, but they also included prayers, weeping, ashes and sackcloth.
Fasting was not taken lightly.
There are things that will only happen through fasting!
Jesus once told His disciples that certain victories would only come through prayer and fasting.
However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
There is an instance in the bible in that The Children of Israel sought God about going to war against the Benjamites and the Lord told them to go, so they went and they lost thousands were killed, so they returned and asked God again, He said Go they went, they lost thousands again. the third day they ...
Judges 20:26-
Then all the children of Israel, that is, all the people, went up and came to the house of God and wept. They sat there before the Lord and fasted that day until evening; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. So the children of Israel inquired of the Lord (the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, and Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, “Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of my brother Benjamin, or shall I cease?”
And the Lord said, “Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.”
Then Israel set men in ambush all around Gibeah.
The third time they defeated Gibeah!
Maybe today there are some areas in you life that really need some help.
Lets fast together, for ourselves and others.
