Experiencing and Maintaining Revival
Experiencing and Maintaining Revival
Pastor Keith Hassell
Foundation Scripture: Psalm 24:3-6; 15:1-5
I. It is one thing to experience revival. It is another thing to maintain revival.
II. Experiencing a revival of God’s Presence
A. Psalm 24:3-6 answers the question: “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His Holy place? (i.e. the Tabernacle of His Presence)
1. He who has clean hands (outer right standing toward others)
2. He who has clean hands (inner right standing before God)
3. He who has not lifted up his soul to an idol (Nothing stands between us and God)
4. He who has not sworn deceitfully (No deception or lies)
III. Maintaining a revival of God’s Presence
A. Psalm 15 answers the questions: “Who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?”
B. This passage connects our relationship with God to our relationship with others around us. In order to have a relationship with God---to abide in His tabernacle and to dwell in His holy hill---we must maintain a right relationship with others.
C. Who is it that this passage states can maintain a revival of God’s presence in their lives?
1. He who walks uprightly (HONESTY)
2. He who works righteousness (DOING WHAT IS RIGHT)
3. He who speaks truth in his heart (TRUTHFULNESS)
4. He who does not backbite with his tongue (CONTROL OF THE TONGUE)
a. “Backbite” means to speak maliciously (slanderously) of a person who is absent
5. He who does no evil to his neighbor (INNOCENT OF EVIL)
6. He who does not take up a reproach against his neighbor (FREE OF DISGRACING AND DISCREDITING) [
a. “Reproach” means to accuse, blame, discredit, disgrace, or shame
b. Gossip is sharing information that disgraces, discredits, or shames an individual who is absent with another individual who is neither a part of the problem or the solution.
7. In whose eyes a vile person is despised (DOES NOT COVENANT WITH EVIL MEN)
a. “Vile” means to be morally bankrupt, totally given over to the passions and sins of the flesh.
b. This does not mean that we are to separate ourselves from sinners for we are called to save sinners. This means that we refuse to honor their sinful lifestyles.
8. He honors those who fear the Lord (HONORS GOD FEARING PEOPLE)
9. He swears to his own hurt and does not change (KEEPS HIS WORD)
10. He does not put out his money at usury (FINANCIALLY UPRIGHT)
11. He does not take a bribe against the innocent (JUSTICE)
a. Bribery can be with money, friendship, acceptance, favor, position, etc.
C. PROMISE: He who does these things shall never be moved. From where? From ABIDING IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD.
IV. INVITATION
A. You can’t have revival without receiving the REVIVER. His name is JESUS.
B. Repent of the things that keep you from experiencing revival in your heart.
C. Repent of the things that have robbed you of an ongoing revival in your soul.
D. Commit your life totally to Jesus and determine to follow Him daily as your Lord and Master.
