Felix' Opportunity
Felix’ Opportunity
Pastor Keith Hassell
Foundation Scripture: Acts 24:22-27
Felix had the opportunity that many would cherish—to have Paul for a teacher. But Felix missed his opportunity for salvation. What hindered him?
1. Fear: “Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid…”
a. Felix was afraid to face his sin and its consequences.
b. Are you avoiding the dealings of God because you are afraid to admit that you are wrong and need to repent?”
2. Procrastination: “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.”
a. Felix tried to wait until he was ready rather than when God was ready. That time never came.
b. Are you trying to put off until another time what God is asking of you today?
3. Selfishness: “Meanwhile he also hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him.”
a. If Felix had gotten saved, he would no longer be able to take bribes. It would affect his value system and his standard of living.
b. Is selfishness hindering you from giving your life to God?
4. Pleasing man: “But after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.”
a. Felix desired to please men more than do what was right.
b. Are you allowing what other people think keep you from making a decision for God?
Don’t be like Felix and miss your opportunity to be saved, delivered, and set free.
