Foundation Scriptures:    Mark 8:34-38

1.       Who is it that says, “Follow Me?”

2.       Why does He speak to us?

          a.       He sees us as special

          b.       He knows our purpose

          c.       He sees our potential

          d.       He knows we will never be satisfied with anything else

3.       What does it mean to “follow”?

          a.       You trust the One who leads you

          b.       Following Jesus involves:

                   1)       Purpose and meaning for life

                   2)       Direction in life

                   3)       Change

a)       From our idea of who we are and why we were born

b)      From our own direction

c)       From trusting in ourselves to trusting in Him

d)      In relationships

e)       Becoming like Jesus

4.       Why do we follow?

          a.       Because we have a desire to come after Him (Mark 8:34)

b.       Because we recognize that there is no one else who has the words of life (John 6:68)

c.       Because He is our Shepherd and we belong to Him (John 10)

5.       How do we follow? (Mark 8:34-38)

          a.       Deny ourselves

          b.       Take up our cross

          c.       Follow Jesus

6.       When should we follow?

          a.       Matthew 4:19  (Peter and Andrew)  Immediately

          b.       Matthew 9:9 (Levi)  Immediately
