God’s Christmas Tree

Pastor Keith Hassell

 

 

Foundation Scripture:  Romans 5:1-11

 

I.       What is under your Christmas Tree?

II.      God has His Christmas Tree

          A.      It doesn’t have tinsel, ornaments, and lights

          B.      It is the cross of Christ

C.      Acts 5:30  “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.”

D.      1 Peter 2:24  “Who His own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree.”

III.    What is under God’s Christmas Tree?

          A.      Salvation

1.       Romans 5:9  “Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be SAVED from wrath through Him.”

2.       Ephesians 2:8  “For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”

B.      Peace: (forgiveness, reconciliation, justification)

1.       Romans 5:1  “Having been justified by faith, we have PEACE with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

2.       Luke 2:14  “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

C.      Access to the Father

1.       Romans 5:2  “Through whom also we have ACCESS by faith into this grace in which we stand.”

2.       Hebrews 4:14, 16  :Seeing then, that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession…Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

          D.      Hope

1.       Romans 5:2  “Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in HOPE of the glory of God.”

2.       Titus 2:13  “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior, Jesus Christ.”

 

E.      Triumph in trouble

1.       Romans 5:3-4  “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope.”

2.       Job 23:10  “He knoweth the way that I take; when he hat tested me, I shall come forth as gold.”

          F.      Love

1.       Romans 5:5  “Now hope does not disappoint, because the LOVE of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

2.       Romans 5:8  “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

3.       John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

          G.      The Holy Spirit

                   1.       Romans 5:5  “…by the HOLY SPIRIT who is given unto us.”

2.       John 14:16-18  “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him, for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.  I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.”

          H.      Deliverance

1.       Colossians 1:12-13  “Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.  He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.”

          I.       Healing

1.         1 Peter 2:24  “Who His own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.”

J.       Joy

1.       Romans 5:11  “And not only that, but we also REJOICE in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now receive the reconciliation.”

2.       Reconciliation brings joy.

IV.     We receive His gift by faith

          1.       Ephesians 2:8  “For by grace are you saved through faith.”

          2.       John 3:16
