Review of Part 3A
Review of Part 3A
The focus of part 3 of this study has been ‘what the Holy Spirit will do through you’
The Text is the same:
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; Because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, To give unto them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they might be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
last week, I told us that there are at least 10 major things that the Holy Spirit will do through when you become baptized in the Holy Spirit.
before i go further, i want us to reflect on this question: “how is knowing those things that the Holy Spirit will do through me a game changer for me?”
If you are claiming to have being baptized in the holy spirit, but none of the things that would be mentioned during the cause of this message is not happening through you, then it is clear that you have not been keeping pace with the Holy Spirit....
on the other hand, for those that have not been baptized in the Holy Spirit, but are truly aspiring to serve the lord, this knowledge will force you to pray and ask God to give you the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy spirit is invisible, and the only way he becomes visible to the world, is through those things that he does for us and more importantly “through us”
What the Holy Spirit does through us, is the only proof that we are truly baptized in the Holy Spirit and we are walking in step with the Spirit: our text made this plain:
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; Because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
isa
it seems like the scripture is saying “ the only way by which i can tell that the Holy Spirit has come upon me, is simply because i received the anointing to preach and do some other works - so, the works is a proof of his indwelling:
— So, what
The first thing that happened after that the Holy spirit has come upon you is that:
let us begin by carefully considering :
Because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tiding unto the meek:
The Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek: Last week, I said: “when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, he will make a proclaimer of good tidings of you - he will give you the confidence, the message and the right opportunities to present the kingdom of God to somebody. explains better what it means to proclaim good tidings:
7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; That bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; That saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
isa 52 7
— you are a publisher of peace
— you are a publisher of good news
— you are a publisher of God’s saving grace “salvation”
— you are a publisher of the resurrection of the lord Jesus Christ - every time that you spread the good news, you are saying “Jesus is alive forevermore”
The proof that you are truly baptized with the Holy Spirit and that you are walking in the Spirit “are the works that he does through you.” As soon as the holy Spirit rests upon you, there is a word that comes into your mouth:
21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, And my words which I have put in thy mouth, Shall not depart out of thy mouth, Nor out of the mouth of thy seed, Nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the Lord, From henceforth and for ever.
isa
— note the union: “the spirit is upon, and words is in the mouth.”
1 After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee. 2 When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” 4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.
mat 11:
— the messiah, is simply translated “the Anointed one” the one baptized in the Holy Spirit… John, sent his disciples to question the authenticity of the messianic ministry of Jesus, he questioned his baptism…
The response of Jesus was simple “go and report the DEEDS to john, go and report the WORKS that the Holy Spirit is doing through me.” And one of the things that he said was “the good news is proclaimed to the poor.”
18 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
mat 12 18
— I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall proclaim.
Note: have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit? where are the proofs? are you constantly proclaiming the kingdom of God? or, are you one of the christians who just speak empty tongues - speaking in tongues without accompany works, is a mere show of foolishness, it worths nothing… THE HOLY SPIRIT IS EXPECTED TO MAKE A PREACHER OUT OF YOU: SOMEONE WHO PROCLAIMS THE GOOD NEWS OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD...
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
— After your baptism: (1) ye shall receive power (2) power to do what? to be my witnesses. “ this was the statement of Jesus before they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Now let us see what happened as they were baptized:
Act 2
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
— so what happened next? fast forward to verse 14-15; 22; 40-41
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
act 2:1-
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
act
— so, what happened next after the apostles became baptized with the Holy Spirit? PETER BEGAN TO PREACH, AND AFTER HIS SERMON 3000 PEOPLE GAVE THEIR LIVES TO JESUS… HALLELUYAH!
Just like i said in the beginning: “when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, he will make a proclaimer of good tidings of you - he will give you the confidence, the message and the right opportunities to present the kingdom of God”
— please pay attention to this: it was the same day that they were baptized..
they were baptized in the upper room
but, when the opportunity avails itself - they moved downstairs to proclaim the good news.
they did not stay in the upper room and continue to speak in tongues.... as a matter of fact, the tongues that they were speaking was good news, how did i know this? the people who heard them said ‘we hear them speaking in our own languages the great deeds of God’
11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!”
act 2:
You may not fully understand why this passage is a huge departure from where they started, until i read these other passages of the scripture concerning the apostle. the passages I am about to read was their picture before the baptism of the holy spirit:
48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me? 49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled. 50 And they all forsook him, and fled. 51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: 52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
what did you see from these passages?
— they all forsook him
— one of them ran away naked
— sorrow
--- all of these are statements indicating fear and lack of confidence
66 And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came, 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.” 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway and the rooster crowed. 69 And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.” 70 But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” 71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.”
mark 14:
— what can you say about peter?
— he denied his Lord three times
— He invoked curse upon himself as a result of fear
--- this statements indicates how dreadful the apostles were of the Jews
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. 19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
— they were living behind closed doors, because of the Jews.
so there was no way for any of them to preach the good news…
now, let us go back to act 2: at least on 3 places, peter said to they Jews, listen to me brethren… he began to speak boldly about Jesus, and 3000 people surrendered their lives to Jesus....
— they ran away
act 2:14 “ Peter lifted up his voice and address them… give hear to my words — this is confidence
act 2:22 “ men of Israel, hear these words — no more fear of the jews,
act 2:29 “brothers i may say say to you with confidence — was this peter the timid
act 2:36 “ let all the house of israel therefore know for certain” — these are no longer the words of someone who denied his lord
act 2:37 made it clear to us, that the people actually listened to him and responded:
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
6. act 2:38 “ and peter said to them...
at least in 6 major places in act chapter 2, we saw the evidences that something has changed about these men.... the people attested to it, that they have changed...
what was the game changer?
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The Holy Spirit came upon them, and foremost he made a preacher of good news out of them. this bring us to the conclusion today, actually it is where we started from: THE WORKS THAT HE DOES THROUGH YOU IS THE PROOF OF YOUR BAPTISM AND CONSISTENT WALK WITH HIM.

LET US PRAY.
