Opening Welcome and Scriptures from Revelation

(NIV)

2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
“For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son, that who so ever should believe in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through Him.”
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart ! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus said,
“ I am the Resurrection and the Life.
He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whosoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this ?”

Life Story

John Hoban Jr was born on April 11th, 1944 here in Kokomo, Indiana. Growing up John loved to spend time at his grandma and grandpa Hoban’s farm which was place of adventure and an escape for John as he was growing up. I can remember him speaking about it with great fondness. John was not only quite the athlete but was also a tremendous singer and dancer. When he was in high school he performed in a variety show called Hallabaloo in which he was the MC . His brother Joe told me he went to the show not expecting much and not wanting to cheer for his older brother but found himself joining in with a packed crowd to give his brother and friends a standing ovation.

John and his brother Joe had quite a bond....to speak with Joe about his brother you knew it was relationship of pride and love for one another. Especially as of late Joe would often make special time weekly to be with his older brother whom he loved and respected so much. know that you meant a lot to your brother and it meant a lot to his beautiful wife and children how you loved John.

After graduating high school John joined the United States Marine Corps. John was a great solider and even earned special distinction as an expert marksmen with a rifle. John bravely and heroically served in the Marines from 1962-1967, doing two tours in Vietnam during that time doing what he always did best…serving others. John was a proud veteran and for the rest of his life would go above and beyond to pay tribute to the other brave men and women who served in our armed forces. After John’s time in the Marines he went on to spend 32.5 year at Chrysler.

When John met the love of his like Ruth or as he referred to her as....babe. He knew very quickly she was the one. They only dated for 2 months and days....John proposed on their 2nd date and they were married on April 18, 1969. They have been married for 48 amazing years. John loved the family he gained by marrying into Ruth’s wonderful family.John loved Ruth so much. John suffered from PTSD from his time in Vietnam and he always credited his dealing with well to the love and support of his Ruthie. The love that Ruth and John shared was special. Ruth said her favorite things about John were has constant love and gentlemanly spirit....and his generosity. He was so giving and selfless to so many. And they loved to laugh and joke. And later in life just getting out and going for rides together. John and Ruth created a beautiful legacy through their family and their two children Michael and Michelle ( or as he refer to her as shell or little babe)

As a father John was so loving and involved and his children were his pride and joy. He was the type of father that was always there for you. One that would play and take interest in what his kids were interested in whether it was a sport or spending hours play with a new computer or if a problem his kids had. He was One who would listen without judgement, always gave great advice and helped you process. He was the type that was gracious and loving even when his children failed. He was a dad who was truly present and loving. He loved spending time with them and he would look forward to the next time he would see them. Later in life John would love to call Michael and Shell just to hear their voices and say hello. He loved his kids spouse too both Beth and Steve. John loved his family for they treasure they are.

John loved and adored his grandchildren Alex and Laura. He was the type of grandpa who when they were little was one the ground playing with them or dancing throughout the house with them. He was there to give great advice and make them laugh or show up and support them at their events because he was so proud of them. And his great granddaughter Noa had him wrapped around his finger. GG Papaw and she referred to him brought such joy to him. She loved him dearly, she once tucked a little baby into Johns bed to keep him company. John loved to give to his grandbaby’s lots of gifts and treats but most of all he gave them his presence. He loved you all so much. He loved all his family.

He loved being outside and flowers. He loved to fish and play sports and even used to body build. He loved music and to tell joke. John had a smile that could light up any room and cheer up anyone. But other than his family the thing he loved most was his lord and savior Jesus Christ. in 1973 John and Ruth accepted Jesus christ when a Pastor visited their home, their lives and eternities were forever changed. Church faithfully served his lords church for many years. He was apart of this church for many years. He served in many roles and loved to go to hopehill girls home on missions trips and he loved to build ramps for those who needed them. John was a man of deep compassion and generosity. He would often round up in paying people who did work for him and Ruth. He loved paying for service members or people he felt led to bless when he was out to eat. I know myself and many others were blessed by his generosity…John once bought me a shotvac

You were not only my grandpa, but you were my friend. You were always there whenever I needed someone to listen. We had so many conversations that meant the world to me. You always gave me advice when it was needed or made me laugh when I needed it. You walked beside me my entire life. You are my hero and I will cherish every moment that we had. I love you so much and miss you. These are only a few of my thoughts. I could go on forever. –Alex Grandson

John truly was a hero to so many and a friend to so many but follower of Jesus will be his greatest legacy…the thing that was the most important to him.
