Homes Made In Heaven

“26 Characteristics of Wonderful Wives”

Pastor Keith Hassell

 

Foundation Scriptures:  Ephesians 5:22-23; Titus 2:4-5; I Peter 3:1-6

1.                  Submission:  Accepting and following God’s order for the home

a.                   As to the Lord

b.                  Its all in the attitude

c.                  God’s design(I Corinthians 11:3-12)

d.                  Because of the angels(protective covering)

e.                  Power flows through order.  If there is no power, then something is out of order.

2.                  Love:  Love is not a feeling.  It is a decision.  Give him your heart.

3.                  Respect:  Honor, esteem, consideration, regard

4.                  Release:  “Letting go of the reigns” and “Learning to trust God”

5.                  Leaver:  She has cut the strings from mother and daddy’s apron

6.                  Cleaver:  She has embraced her new identity as the wife of her husband.  She is permanently bonded and committed to the relationship.

7.                  Friend:  Best friend.  Completely trustworthy.  Lifetime soulmate.

8.                  Lover:  Committed to the celebration of sexual intimacy.

9.                  Helpmate:  God made Eve to be a helpmate for the man.  God gives families a purpose, lead by the man and to be assisted by the wife.  Two visions?  Division.

10.             Companion:  One he can walk with through the ups and downs of this life’s journey.  One you can depend up for company along the way.

11.             Protector:  Rear guard, watching out for sneak attacks from the rear

12.             Homemaker:  Home manager.  Her first responsibility is the home.

13.             Loving mother:  She loving cares for the children.

14.             Encourager:  Shower with praise, encouragement, be his personal cheerleader

15.             Intercessor:  There is no one more qualified to pray for your husband than you.

16.             Communicator:  She does not demand that he know her needs without communicating them to him.  Husbands need help here. 

17.             Godly Influencer:  Not selfishly motivated(manipulation)  but uses her influence to strengthen her husbands resolve to do God’s will first

18.             Faithful:  “The heart of her husband safely trusts in her”(Proverbs 31:11)

19.             Discreet:  She is careful about what she says or does.  Keeps confidences when necessary.

20.             Good:  Kind, hospitable, helpful, goodhearted, not naughty or perverse

21.             Gentle:  Not harsh, vengeful, spiteful, demanding, or given to outburst of wrath.  She carefully handles the precious relationship God has given her.

22.             Quiet Spirit:  Not nagging, complaining or lecturing

23.             Thankful:  Never taking her husband for granted.

24.             Content:  Content with her husbands vocation, salary, and status in life.  She does not belittle him by comparing him to other men.  Men resent being compared to other men.

25.             Beautiful:  Both external and internal beauty.  External beauty fades but internal beauty can far more than compensate.

26.             Fears the Lord:  Proverbs 31:30  “Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”

 

Invitation:

1.                  Does the above sound like wonder woman rather than a wonderful wife?

2.                  Only God can help you to become the wife that God and your husband want you to be.

3.                  What do I do?

a.                   Acknowledge your need for help

b.                  Repent for doing things that prevent you from being a wonderful wife.

c.                  Embrace God’s order and plan for the family

d.                  Ask God for grace 

e.                  Receive by faith

f.                   Begin a new walk of grace as a wonderful wife in Jesus name!
