A Night with Jesus.

Our Text:

3 Main Points

Jesus was willing
Jesus was forgiving
Jesus was fulfilling
*READ THE TEXT*

First Point...Jesus was willing.

He was willing to accept the punishment of sin even though he didn’t do anything wrong. He was willing to welcome death even though he didn’t deserve it. Here’s what I think:
He knew what He was doing/fulfilling.
He is the demonstration of great love from God.
He knows He is the victorious King.
Verses
- no guilt
- no guilt
- no guilt
- no guilt
- no guilt
- accusation
- urgent accusation
- vehemently accusing (QUESTION: what does vehemently mean?)
- STRONG accusation

Jesus was willing to receive anyone into the Kingdom as well!

Luke 23:34 ESV
34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
Luke 23:34
Luke 23:43 ESV
43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
2 Peter 3:9 ESV
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

Second Point...Jesus was forgiving.

Question: What do you think Jesus means here? “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Question: What were they doing?
Question: Why does Jesus tell God that they don’t know what they are doing?
Question: What did Jesus know that they didn’t?
Matthew 26:
Matthew 26:28 ESV
28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Jesus was accomplishing a great amount of forgiveness.
“Poured out for many.”

“Forgiveness is the nature of who Jesus is. His purpose was to accomplish the forgiveness we need. We stand in court guilty and need our guilt forgiven. Jesus made that happen.”

Third Point…Jesus was fulfilling.

Luke 23:43 ESV
43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Remember Sunday School this morning...
Matthew 26:
Matthew 26:29 ESV
29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
Jesus fulfilled with this thief what will ultimately take place for all of us who recognize Him as Lord like the Bible shows us. This is a really sweet part of the Bible that is hard for some people to deal with and trust. The Bible clearly shows Jesus accepting what he doesn’t deserve, but that’s the point. We needed a perfect sacrifice, a perfect person, to take care of what we, imperfect people, could not take care of.
Here’s how we apply this to our lives...

Application

Jesus IS our example. We should be...
Willing for any and all things concerning Him.
We should be forgiving. Even of those who have directly wronged us.
Lecrae - Lucky Ones -
Under the sun I'm found, we were left to drown Evil abounds, weight is pullin’ us down No sight or sound, impaired to His care Chasing after the wind, running after the air Deserving of desertion, servants of destruction And everyday we taste of a grace that we’re unconcerned with My sin I should be burned with, I'm guilty, filthy, and stained But He became a curse, drank my cup and took my pain Yeh, for that He reigns, through faith I'm changed And I don't have a reason why He loosened up my chains I don't believe in luck; I believe in grace But they say we’re lucky cause we seen His face And we heard Him call us, and He heard our answer And He gives us second chances when we throw our hands up So weary and broken, hopin’ His arms will be open Unconditional love has got us locked into focus (I guess we the lucky ones, huh?)
