Introduction:

The Scriptures say very little about the life of Jesus Christ as a teen. Sometimes, I have wondered why God did not say more. Nevertheless, there are 2 very important verses in Luke that, if we examine them closely, probably tell us everything we need to know anyway. is a summary description of Jesus’ life from Infancy to Boyhood (birth to 12). The verbs are in the passive suggesting that Jesus’ role at this stage of life was to “take it in.” The order of the words emphasizes primarily physical growth first then moving to spiritual. is a summary description of Jesus’ life from boyhood to adulthood. The verbs are active suggesting Jesus’ role at this stage of life was to “act it out.” The scenario between these 2 verses is the account of Jesus sitting in the temple among the doctors and religious leaders at 12 years of age. This is about the time where we see Jesus beginning to act out everything He has taken in. His age would equate to entering 7th grade. By definition, wisdom is “the skill of putting knowledge into action.” There came a point and time in Jesus life where He began acting upon what He knew to be true. 7-12 (the teen years) is the time to get serious about putting “wisdom into action.” It is here that some of the most critical decisions in life will be made. Solomon’s words in ring true. The most important thing to get is wisdom. And, when you do, Proverbs, shows us some of the areas of life it will affect.
