Kingdom Dominion
Kingdom Dominion
Pastor E. Keith Hassell
I. God has dominion over all things
A. God created and owns the heavens and the earth
1. Psalm 24:1 (NKJV) “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.”
B. All earthly dominion belongs to God
1. Daniel 4:34-35 (NKJV) “And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’”
C. God delegated kingdom dominion on the earth to mankind
1. Psalm 115:15-16 (NKJV) “May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men.”
2. Genesis 1:26-28 (NKJV) “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’”
D. Man’s dominion did not include dominion over other human beings.
E. Man’s dominion was originally extended through generations of children
1. Be fruitful: Produce after your own kind
2. Multiply: Reproduce yourself in others
3. Fill the earth: Extend your influence in the world
4. Subdue it: Bring it into kingdom order
5. Have dominion: Rule over it as God’s kingdom representative
II. Dominion Lost
A. “Dominion Lost” occurred when Adam and Eve committed treason against the kingdom of God by failing to represent God’s authority in the garden.
B. Man began to dominate other human beings (Genesis 10:8-10)
III. Dominion Restored
A. No. 1: Through the coming of Jesus Christ as King
1. John 18:33-37 (NKJV) “Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him, ‘Are You the King of the Jews?’ Jesus answered him, ‘Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?’ ‘Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?’ Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.’ Pilate therefore said to Him, ‘Are You a king then?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.’”
B. No. 2: Through the Gospel of the Kingdom
1. Mark 1:14-15 (NKJV) “Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.’”
a The time has come
b The kingdom of God is at hand
c Repent of your sins
d Believe in the gospel
2. Luke 4:17-19 (NKJV) “And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.’”
C. No. 3: Through the new birth
1. John 3:5 (NKJV) “Jesus answered, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.’”
D. No. 4: Through the church
1. The church is Christ’s kingdom embassy on earth
2. Matthew 16:18-19 (NKJV) “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
E. No. 5: Through the ministry of believers
1. 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NKJV) “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”
F. No. 6: Through love
1. Matthew 22:34-40 (NKJV) “But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, ‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?’ Jesus said to him, ‘“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.’”
2. John 13:34-35 (NKJV) “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
G. No. 7: Through servanthood
1. Matthew 20:25-28 (NKJV) “But Jesus called them to Himself and said, ‘You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.’”
H. No. 8: Through the power of the Holy Spirit
1. Matthew 12:28 (NKJV) “But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.”
2. Luke 4:18 (NKJV) “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor…”
IV. “Dominion Restored” begins with submitting to Christ’s dominion or “Lordship” over your own life
A. Romans 10:9-13 (NKJV) “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”
