No More Fear!

Foundation Scripture:   Hebrews 2:14-15; Judges 6:1-16

I.       Jesus took on human flesh and blood

          A.      To identify with us in death

B.      Through death to destroy him who had the power over death, that is, the devil.

C.      To release those who through the fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

II.      The fear of death can hold us in bondage

          A.      “US” refers to the inner person created in the image of God

B.      Fear will cause us to hesitate

C.      Fear will intimidate us

D.      Fear will paralyze us

E.      Fear will cause us to surrender the fight rather than fight

III.     The fear of death can include more than physical death:  spiritual death, the death of a relationship, the death of financial security, the death of a job or career, the death of a marriage, the death of a relationship, the death of a reputation, the death of a social status, the death of a position, etc.

IV.     Gideon and the power of fear (Judges 6:1-16)

          A.      Defeat comes as a result of sin

          B.      Fear comes as a result of being defeated

          C.      Fear causes us to seek our refuges (v. 2)

          D.      Fear will steal the harvest (v. 3-6)

          E.      The problem:  Israel feared the gods of Canaan (v. 7-10)

F.      Fear will make us think less of ourselves than what God sees us (v. 12).  Israel saw themselves as grasshoppers.

G.      Fear will cause us to come to the wrong conclusions about God (v. 13)

V.      Overcoming fear (vs. 14-16)

          A.      Go

          B.      Walk in the might God has given you

          C.      Believe that God is with you
