Introduction
The attractive thing about America to outsiders is the materialism, not the spirituality. It’s interesting to listen to refugees who have just gotten into the country: what they want are cars and televisions. They’re not coming after our gospel, unless they’re translating the gospel into a promise of riches and comfort.

1 Timothy 2:3
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
In this story Jesus demonstrated the power he had over death itself. Lazarus is raised fron the dead after being inthe grave 4 days. Yet even though Jesus did this great miracle the people had another reason to come see him.
Jesus' life was filled with people with people with other reason for coming. It is important that we resove to come for him and him alone.
Jesus first called his disciples that they may be with him. Not his power, not his miracles, not his provision. It is not to evaluate his performance but to know him

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
