“Thine is the Kingdom, Power, & Glory”

Matthew 6:9-13

I.              The Doxology of the Model Prayer

A.               Doxology is a praise unto God

B.                This doxology is not found in Luke’s account

C.               This doxology is taken from King David’s praise unto God

1.          1 Chronicles 29:11 (NKJV) Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and You are exalted as head over all.”

II.           Thine is the Kingdom

A.               King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon was humbled until he realized that the Lord rules over all

1.          Daniel 4:28-33 (NKJV) All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of the twelve months he was walking about the royal palace of Babylon. 30 The king spoke, saying, ‘Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?’ 31 While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: ‘King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you! 32 And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.’ 33 That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.”

2.          King Nebuchadnezzar was made like the beasts of the field until he realized that he was a man and not God.

B.                The Kingdom is the Lord’s

1.          Psalm 22:28 (NKJV) “For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations.”

C.               God’s kingdom is an everlasting kingdom

1.          Daniel 7:27 (NKJV) “Then the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.”

D.               God’s kingdom is from generation to generation

1.          Daniel 4:34 (NKJV) “And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: for His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing;”

E.                God’s kingdom shall never be destroyed

1.          Daniel 7:14 (NKJV) “Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.”

F.                Praise God that He alone rules over all and that all authority belongs to Him.

III.        Thine is the Power

A.               Praise God that He alone possesses all power.

B.                Psalm 62:11 (NKJV) God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: that power belongs to God.”

C.               Revelation 19:1 (NKJV) After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, ‘Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!’”

IV.       Thine is the Glory

A.               Isaiah 42:8 (NKJV) I am the Lord, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to carved images.”

B.                Isaiah 48:11 (NKJV) For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; for how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another.”

C.               Glory speaks of the magnification of God’s attributes

D.               Praise God that He alone is worthy of all glory

V.          Forever

A.               God’s kingdom, power and glory are eternal

B.                Praise God for the eternal greatness

VI.       Amen

A.               “Amen” means “So be it”

B.                Praise God in humble submission and agreement

VII.    Response to the Word

A.               Are you building your own kingdom and refusing to acknowledge God’s ownership and headship in your life?

B.                Are you attempting things in your own power without recognizing that without God you can do nothing?

C.               Are you receiving glory for your accomplishments without reflecting all glory back to God?

D.               Maintain a proper perspective about God in your life through continual praise.
