Remembrance Sunday

Pastor Keith Hassell

Foundation Scripture:  1 Corinthians 11:23-26

The importance of REMEMBRANCE

·        We have anniversaries to remember the importance of our marriage commitment

·        We have holidays to remember the importance of special people and events

·        Jesus instituted COMMUNION as a way to REMEMBER HIM!

·        When we fail to remember Jesus we can

o       Forget the extent of His love for us

o       Forget the price that was paid for our salvation

o       Forget the victory that Christ has won for us

o       Forget that our lives are not our own but that we have been bought with a price

o       Forget that He is our Lord

o       Fall back into old patterns of sin

o       Fail to tell others about their need to be saved

o       Forget that Jesus is coming back for a bride that is ready for His return

I.          Remember His LOVE!

            A.        John 3:16  God so loved YOU that He gave Jesus

B.        Philippians 2:5-11 Jesus loved YOU enough to enter this fallen world

D.        Isaiah 52:13-53:12  The Sin-Bearing Servant

III.       Remember His VICTORY!

            A.        Jesus rose from the dead! He is ALIVE!

B.        Jesus is declared both Lord and Christ by the resurrection from the dead (Acts 2:36)

C.        Jesus has been given all authority both is heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18-20)

D.        Jesus has gained the keys of death and hell (Revelation 1:18)

E.         Jesus is the firstfruits of those who will rise from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:20, 23)
