Foundation Scripture: 2 Chronicles 7:14
I. What revival is NOT
A. Scheduled Meetings: You can no more hold a revival than you can hold a tornado
B. Emotionalism: People can get emotional---cry, laugh, or shout---and still not be revived
C. Sensationalism: Heightening the external appearance of revival.
D. Hype: Filling a balloon with a lot of hot air. Cotton candy is whipped up with a lot of hot air.
E. Conversion of Sinners: Revival is for the backslider, not the lost.
II. Revival is not measured by:
A. Goose Bumps: Feelings come and go, but revival make a lasting change.
B. Manifestations: Manifestations do not prove nor disprove anything.
C. Crowds: Numbers do not distinguish true and false disciples.
D. Church growth: Church growth cannot measure the work of God in the heart.
E. Prosperity: Remember the church of Laodicea.
III. What revival IS
A. When God’s people become GOD’S PEOPLE (“My people who are called by My Name”)
B. When God’s people become a HUMBLE people (Will humble themselves)
C. When God’s people become a PRAYING people (And pray)
D. When God’s people become a HUNGRY people (Seek My face)
E. When God’s people become a HOLY people (Turn from their wicked ways)
THAT RESULTS IN:
A. Restored relationship with God (“I will hear from heaven”)
B. Revelation of God’s GOODNESS and MERCY (“I will forgive their sin’)
C. DELIVERANCE, CLEANSING, and HEALING that will affect even the world around us (“I will heal their land’)
IV. Revival is measured by
A. A new sense of identity and purpose
B. A humble heart
C. A hunger for God
D. A quest for holiness
E. A commitment to righteousness
F. A conscious fear of the Lord
G. The love of God being shed abroad in your heart
H. Renewed commitment to the corporate church gatherings
I. Renewed commitment to serve God and His people
J. Obedience to the personal call of God
K. A new passion in worship
L. A new persistence in prayer
M. A hunger for the Word of God
N. A commitment to win souls and make disciples
O. Active participation in world missions
V. Without revival we cannot survive
A. My country needs revival
B. My state needs revival
C. My county needs revival.
D. My city needs revival
E. My church needs revival
F. My family needs revival
G. I need revival
VI. Where does revival begin? With ME!
A. If I experience revival, then maybe my family can experience revival.
B. If my family experiences revival, then maybe my church can experience revival.
C. If my church experiences revival, then maybe my city can experience revival.
D. If my city experiences revival, then maybe my county can experience revival.
E. If my county experiences revival, then maybe my state can experience revival.
F. If my state experiences revival, then maybe my country can experience revival.
VII. What shall we do?
A. Acknowledge that your life belongs to God and that you have lived your life independently of His lordship.
B. Humble yourself and repent of your sin.
C. Call upon His name in prayer.
D. Seek God’s favor and blessing on your life
E. Put away your wicked ways, habits, and compromises.
F. Believe His promise
1. Restored RELATIONSHIP with Him
2. Experience His GOODNESS and MERCY
3. Experience His DELIVERANCE, CLEANSING, and HEALING that will affect not only you but the world around you
