Stirred Up

Foundation Scripture:  Haggai 1

I.             What time is it? (Verses 2-4)

A.        Is it time to build our own house?

B.        Is it time to build God’s house?

C.        If we misjudge what time it is, things will not work right

II.          Consider Your Ways (Verses 5-11)

A.               You sow much and bring in little

B.                You eat and do not have enough

C.               You clothe yourself but no one is warm

D.               You earn wages to put it into a bag with holes

E.                You looked for much but it came to little

F.                What does this mean?

 

III.      Go up to the mountain! (Verse 8-11)

A.               Bring wood

B.                Build the temple

C.               Purpose: That I may take pleasure in it and be glorified

IV.       God has a remnant (Verse 12)

A.               They obey His voice

B.                They obey the words of the prophetic voice

C.               They fear the presence of the Lord

 

V.          God is with His remnant (Verse 13; 2:4)

VI.       God will stir up the spirit of His people (Verse 14) (GRACE!)

A.               “Stirred” means “to arouse, awaken, to excite, to open one’s eyes.” It occurs about 75 times in the Old Testament. It is used to describe

1.          An eagle stirring up its nest (Deuteronomy 32:11)

2.          A musical instrument being awakened or “warmed up” for playing (Psalm 108:2)

3.          The awakening of the prophets ear to hear the word of the Lord (Isaiah 50:4)

4.          The arm of the Lord being awakened or roused into action (Isaiah 51:9)

B.                The people came
